Beware of fake advs on olx anf Quikr

Hi Friends,

I been duped. Just wanna make everyone aware that people are posting fake advs on olx and quikr for selling records, turntable and amp.

One of the advs is below.

Just posting for forum members so that they are more cautious :
The picture in the specified advertisement is taken from here link. one can search duplicate images posted on classified ads. Just download the classfied ad image/s. Go to image search in google. In this example search 'Technics turntable' in google-Images. Open the downloaded image folder. Drag and drop in search menu the image you have downloaded. Usually same images can be found.

I did that but was late, i transfered the amount and then searched. Sometimes it just happens.
It was mistake from my side. Normally record and turntable selling guys are genuine. But people are taking advantage of innocence.

In addition to this there are some ads being posted by person claiming to be in UK and giving lucrative discount on Yamaha and other receivers. They claim to be authorised dealers and will ship it free in "3" days !!! When you approach them for more details and seek clarifications they just disappear. So please be alert about such postings too...

Please lodge a complaint with your local cyber cell, I know its a additional headache explaining them but it is the right thing to do.
They'll trace call and transaction information and might be able to bring these crooks to justice.

Well Sorry for your loss, OLX does not have a protection for buyers. so as a general rule we must never transfer money.

I usually go to the address and only after inspecting the goods transfer the money.

On the other hand quikkr has a bit of protection. one can make the payment as it does not go to the seller. only after you receive the goods the money is transferred.

Here one thing to note is that on delivery open the package and test it. only if satisfied let the delivery person go _ this is a quikkr policy and the delivery guys will wait.

If you take delivery then quikkr has no responsibility as one could have damaged the goods etc and the seller also would need some assurance.

I have brought good valuing 30k also on quikkr and always would test ( for electronic gadgets) before signing the delivery.

I am sorry to hear that. Why don't you contact OLX to see that the seller can be black listed ? I sell quite a lot on OLX and such sellers damage genuine sellers reputation also. I think OLX has deleted that ad. I could not locate the ad

Add is being removed. I have bought so many LP's and items on olx and quikr. I do trust people on it and will continue to do so.

Good news
Just received sms from seller. It was was personal issue thats why didnt answer calls or sms for last 3 days. Hoping to resolve packaging tracking on monday when back in town.

Let's hope for best.

Olx and Quikr always have their risk elements associated with them. Prefer to buy from our HFV for sale section

Oh man!! sorry for your loss brother. On OLX I've been watching very lucrative pricing for amps but when something seems to good to be true, there must be catch. I only buy local products on olx and quikr. If I need to buy a used amp or any hifi related stuff I always turn to this forum or buy locally if choose olx, have really genuine people. Still be cautious and safe buying. Don't you have any contact with that person whatsapp or anything?

The better way to do it is to ask the guy on OLX to post the ad on Quikr as well. You need to pay to Quikr and until you get the item and and you choose to keep it, they don't release the payment to the buyer.

That's good suggestion. Will keep it in mind for future deals.

Also, ask as many questions as possible, request for more pictures and videos. Finally persuade for part payment. These have worked for me so far, considering almost all my components are off olx or Quikr.
