hi,
i had bought a LG BD1611 REGION FREE (MODDED) from 220 electronics.com , about 5 months back. recently about a couple of weeks back ,when i was getting my projector installed ,all of a sudden there was loss of signal thru the HDMI , .the player was connected thru a 25 feet HDMI cable (DAC) to the projector. initially i thought it was a problem with the cable ,but when i connected the tata sky hd to the projector thru the same cable it is working fine .i checked the player with 3 other smaller HDMI cables i have ,connected to the LCD,the same no signal issue.
Gave the player to a service centre.they told me that there was a software problem ,which needed to be checked ,they got back saying that the software is fine and that the problem might be with the cable,as not all cables are compatible with all players.they are just refusing to admit that there is a hardware problem and to replace the HDMI PORT .
one more thing i wanted to add is that the payer is working fine with component video cables.
ONE STUPIDITY i have done is i have only got hdmi cable connected and conceld ,so i have no other option other than an HDMI

just wanted to know a few things

1) does it happen usually or is it a one off case
2) can i get the HDMI UNIT REPLACED LOCALLY AND WHERE IN MUMBAI
3) if i use the component for video and optical for audio will i get the same quality of audio and video as an HDMI.
4 )any other option

my SET UP
1) BENQ-W1200 ,PIONEER VSX5211,ENERGY RC MICRO , LG BD 1611

2) LG LW 5700 42 3D SMART TV, DENON1911,MIRAGE MX, ASUS HD3 MEDIA PLAYER

I think the HDMI port is faulty and you need to replace it. A few months back the hdmi board of my denon 1612 avr became faulty and the denon dealer Kripa Electronics at Chennai replaced it. Luckily the AVR was under warranty. While connecting HDMI devices always ensure that your devices are powered off from the wall outlet itself.

HDMI ports can fail but this is not a common occurring event.

Have you tried factory reset of BDP? Try switching from 1080p to 1080i. If LG is not willing to repair the unit, try getting it repaired from a local repair shop. I understand that there are many shops which do that on Lamington Road or Heera-Panna.

If you use component, you will get max 1080i output. This video is near equivalent of full HD (1080p) and under normal circumstances, you will not notice any drop in video quality. But you will not get HD-Audio without HDMI. The coaxial out or optical out can output DD 5.1 or DTS 5.1 only.

I didn't understand one thing. Did the service centre play anything through HDMI at their place? and did it work? Since they are telling it is a cable problem, they should show you that it is really working with some HDMI cable that they have .

Makes lot of sense.

Hi ,
thanks for the replies ,today I went to pick up the player from the service centre , they are now ready to accept that there is a problem with the hardware and not the software and that only the hdmi port cannot be replaced but the whole board will be replaced . When i enquired about the cost theywerenot sure and would call me up and would give me an estimate in a day . I have got back the player , as I m not convinced as to the whole board being replaced .

Wanted to know if it is nessasary for the whole board to be replaced .
Will trymy luck in lamington rd tomorrow!

hi,

went to lamington road ysterday ,got the player opened and checked in front of me. the guy there told me that the HDMIport looks fine and that there is a problem with the mother board and it is better that i get the whole mother board replaced . so its back to square one! so will now give it bck to the lg service centre for replacing the board. however my only concern is whether the region free modding will get affected if the mother board is changed!:o

the player is back in the LG service centre , the guy there told me that the all region modding will be affected ,as in india the board available to them is of region c and the data on the mod chip is FOR region A . so may not work on the region c , board . any way he will get back to me on monday with the latest update!

In that case don't repair the player. Most bd's are region free. Just buy a local bdp, if hdmi is very important. You can still get decent quality on component.

The HDMI port is bad and it will need to be replaced or you can just use the audio/video option. I had the same problem and I went with the AV ports. The picture quality and sound is the same. The only thing is you can't use the HDMI port. I wouldn't pay for a new player. They tired that with me. I just used the manual and figured it out.

1080p is not POSSIBLE over Component connection or AV OUTPUT , ONLY 1080i is possible.

Correct. Up to 1080i is possible over component video. Only 576i/p is possible over composite AV. Again, HD audio is available in HDMI only. Optical/coaxial will output DD/DTS 5.1 only but then most people do not perceive a lot of difference between HD audio and 5.1 audio unless there is a kickass home theatre system.

best is to check RGB and seeing if it is satisfactory or not..
if it satsifactory..cool.
if not then thinking for a solution..
about audio..Mr kix is true..DD or dts is kaafi....really kaafi..hd audio vs normal DD 5.1 is not that big leap like sd video to hd video..
