I am not able to play Day after tomorrow bluray disc on my sony bdp s380.
Once it loaded it goes into the disc and black screen alone i get. and the player shows 00:00:00. I have tried the disc on my friend player and it plays flawlessly.

My player is with the latest firmware as well. Let me know what i need to do.

Do you have any other bluray disc? If yes does this other disc play in your Sony BDP s380?

If the bluray plays-- then it is the Day after tomorrow Disc-- If not then it is the Bluray player

You may have scratches or dust on it.

Wash the disc in cool water. Wipe it dry with a very soft cloth in a circular fashion.

Try it again-- Hope that helps

Wipe it dry with a very soft cloth in a circular fashion.

NEVER wipe a CD or DVD/ BD in a circular motion ! Wipe it in a straight line inwards or outwards!

Apart from that, have you checked the region coding of your player and the BD disc ? If your player was bought in India the chances are it is a Region C locked.
Also is the player your friend has a Region free one ?

Learned something new- Why inwards or outwards?

When you wipe a CD, DVD in a circular motion the particles that you are wiping off can cause a circumferential scratch which is much more difficult for the error correction software in the CDP/DVDP to correct since there will be several more bits in error in close proximity.

Wiping the CD/DVD in a radial motion can result in a radial scratch in the presence of particulates. This kind of a scratch is a lot easier for error correcting software to correct for.

See Clean your CDs from the center outwards | mp3insider.net

That being said BD's are a lot more resistant to scratches as compared to CD,s/DVD's since they have a scratch resistant coating. They are however not scratch-proof.

If your player's network connection is enabled, try disabling it and retry. Also try the converse. The BD Live feature, if available, could be trying to connect out to the Internet causing a delay.

If there is a region code mismatch, the message will show up. Since no such message is being displayed, this probably means some other problem. Most likely the problem is with the laser pickup. While some laser may be able to read other discs, this one may be having a problem going to the second layer where menus are located. Try lens cleaning.
