Hi everyone,
since this is my first post here i take this opportunity to say hello to all members of this forum.I first of all thank everyone for making such an wonderful and useful forum for Hifi:clapping:
So coming to the point am in search for a bookshelf speaker for my stereo setup, My current setup is,

CD Player:Marantz CD5003
Amp: YBA YA-201 integrated
and for the time being I have paired it up with a Jamo cornet 40 MK4 speakers, interconnects and speaker cables are Bandridge-Profigold.
sound is good but definitely needs an upgrade.

My room size is 12*17 and I mostly listen to Tamil movie songs and a little Indian classical. The setup will be purely used only for music and no movies. Am going in only for a bookshelf and not a floorstander.
I have narrowed down to some speakers and my budget is <40k,

Dali ikon 2
Epos ELS 8
MS aviano 2, For sake of discussion I make a little description of sound character of the amp am using, its on the leaner side and a little laidback, I would request my forum members to suggest the best matching speakers for my setup from the above list and also your choices too. Also I would not be able to carry my amp for auditioning as I live very far from my nearest metro Chennai so have to rely upon you experts...

Thanks in advance,
Kandeeban

Hi Kandeeban, First. Welcome to this Wonderful Forum and nice to see people from nearby City.

The speakers which you have shortlisted are all wonderful in their own ways. The Epos will be a better one but when it comes to matching of YBA design then I will suggest the Dali ikon 2. I had used the same said YBA 201 and their CD 201 for a very short time. I preferred the Older YBA then the latest ones. Match it with the Dali and you will not go wrong.

regards

kandeeban, welcome to HFV. I am not familiar with the said YBA amp. But as I can see soundofmusic is and I am sure he can give you good guidance in the matter.
I think the Dali is recommended because it is a bit bright?

@iaudio : The YBA 201 lacks the refined sound of the older YBA model "Integre". To bring the YBA back to life we need speakers like Dali which has got the sparkling hi freq.
Kandeeban , Also look for Focal JM Lab, These speakers also match well with the Yba.

rajapraveen80,
As far as I know the YA201 is designed by YBA, but is actually made in China and is a lot cheaper than the usual French-made YBA amps which are superlative and quite expensive. Instead being called simply YBA, this one goes by the brand name YBA Design. The YBA Design YA201 nevertheless is a decent amp, and comes to better life at higher volumes. I am not sure if the YA201 is designed ideally to pair up with Focals.

Thanks soundofmusic and other members for quick response.. As suggested I have narrowed down in for the dali, but I read reviews saying ikon 2 is lacking in bass and when paired with already lean sounding YBA would it do justice? Also would like to know pairing an warm and neutral speaker like wharfedale diamond make the sound better than a slightly bright Dali ikon 2.

Wharfedale is anything but neutral. And coupled with the already laidback sound signature of your amp, the sound will be even more dull.

Hi kandeepan,

For a lean sounding amp, MS Aviano-2 with good bass may be a good choice. The treble is also crisp , of course my impressions are with Marantz PM 6003 amp. Both MS and Dali can be auditioned at M/s Cressida AV Zone, Chennai, pl refer their website for an appointment. If you want to test with a burnt in MS Aviano-2 you are welcome to audition at my home.

Another brand that I suggest you is KEF Q300 model BS which has had good reviews.

Just my Rs.2/-

Hi murali,
Thanks for your suggestions and invitations, if possible I will visit one fine day for auditioning surely.

Dear Kandeeban , Kindly avoid the Wharfedale and MS. Both are good speakers , but will not match with your YBA. The 201 needs something slightly on the brighter side to bring out some energy from the music. If you had bought the Older version of YBA, then any speakers will be a good match, But the latest YBA is not the original sound of YBA and it lacks in the resolution and sounds muddy when paired with a warm or neutral speakers. I used it with my Quad and the sound was ok, but paired very well with a Dali which was loaned by a Dealer.

Hello guys,
Finally I went in with Focal chorus 706v, IMHO the combination seems to work good and the speakers still breaking in, sound is gradually improving.
Thank you guys...

Kandeeban.
