Hello All,

I bought this Bose companion 5 computer music system from USA on 2010 and recentty tried to use it in india and went kaput without step down converter.

What might be reason? & i know that its a 110 v system and with out step down converter it went kaput.

So when I spoke with service person might be fuse gone but they cant disclose the complete or approxmate cost of repair.

For service they charge Rs. 1250+tax= Rs. 1450 /- and then parts cost exclusive. They wont deliver it on the same day even if its small issue like fuse.

The service person in chennai who is very adamant to tell the approxmate cost and possiblity of issues which I am totally not happy with reputed brand like Bose. Also they cant check and tell on the same day and I have to leave the product. What I know if they have charged some few thousand bucks jus for 5 rupees fuse?? I totaly lost the reputation.

Guys advice me. weather it can be DIY... (fix ourself ) and i believe the service cost is too high..

I'm not sure if I agree with you here. Firstly, all companies have same policy. They charge you for service regardless of nature of fault. Only after that they will tell you an estimate. As for high service charge it's on par with other such brands like apple etc. If you are confident about nature of fault then my advice is to get it repaired from a 3rd party trustworthy center. But have it repaired in front of you if possible

I do agree and not bothered about the service cost to identify the nature of fault. But While I am asking service person to wait and take the delivery on teh same day if it simple issue and she said "No we cant tell you the problem on the same day even if its small issue like fuse inside gone" and they need more more than 2 - 4 days. What if I have overcharged for small issue like fuse and they said some board has gone. How to trust these ppl? Do we trust them??

You have to trust them, yours is not the only system they are servicing. They generally know what they are doing. There is a standard process service centers are supposed to follow. It is usually not the most efficient.

the 110-220 converter will cost less than 500k.if the problem is only with the fuse.

500K? Five Lakhs?

I am little confused with this thread. The OP plugs a systems meant for 110 volts into a 220 volts power supply, and expects only a blown fuse? In all probability, the power supply inside will be burnt. That would need replacement and servicing all and any parts of other equipment that were affected by the power surge, spike or whatever you want to call it.

What is needed is to open the equipment and inspect the innards thoroughly. This can only be done by trained technicians who know the equipment well. Certainly not a DIY job.

Cheers

As our moderator has mentioned, chances are that more than a simple fuse is gone.

Usually when one plugs in a 110v running system/appliance into a 230v outlet, the entire power supply board goes, not just the fuse.

Most of the times, so many parts in the power supply board goes, that it is better to replace the entire power supply board! And on top of that, if any sundry voltage does go in to the other boards, that can be found only after the power supply board has been rectified.

I do not think that it would be just the fuse.
