The palm of my left hand feels burned up while writing this review to say the least.
You will know more as you read on. After some serious contemplation on which phone to buy I finally bought Samsung Wave for 18K a few days back. On the 8th of August I had started another Thread here about some of my doubts with the Samsung Galaxy Android Operating system -
Samsung Galaxy S Android Phone - Is Eclair 2.1 upgradeable to Froyo 2.2
http://www.hifivision.com/what-shou...phone-eclair-2-1-upgradeable-froyo-2-2-a.html
Although I had made up my mind to go for the Galaxy I backed out at the last moment decided to get the wave. As of now it seems like a wrong decision. Firstly the good points : -
1) The Super Amoled display is totally awesome and really bright. This is the highlight of the phone. The UI appears quite pleasing to the eye.
2) 5 MP Camera is of decent quality but nothing exceptional. No way near a proper digital 5 MP camera. The HD video recording is excellent though.
3) First phone with Bluetooth 3 (anyways whats the big deal )
4) Internet browser is good but is without the text reflow feature which ultimately destroys the whole browsing experience.
5) Bada OS - The touchwiz UI is almost identical to other Samsung phones like Corby Pro. Some useful samsung apps available for download but nothing outstanding.
6) Performance - Phone has 1Ghz processor compared to my Nokia 5235 434 Mhz processor. Phone is a breeze to work with on most occasions.
NOW THE BAD PART -
As MENTIONED ABOVE that my left hand feels burned up is because the phone has a major OVERHEATING problem. The phone gets quite hot from the back side while doing regular browsing and some playing around continuously for 10-15 minutes. The heat gets even more bad if you start playing motion sensor games like Asphalt 5 / NFS shift. Also that the phone gets really hot while charging. The charging time is also very long - around 2.5 hours for a full battery charge. I can clearly say that if anyone uses a mobile phone for long periods like I do then " DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE ". Initially I thought that maybe I am the only one feeling the heat. To confirm this I handed over the phone to a couple of my friends and they too felt the same. The thing is that I do not think this is a one off problem with my phone. I have been looking around on google and found that a lot many number of people are facing similar overheating problems on the SAMSUNG WAVE & also the SAMSUNG GALAXY S. The back side of this phone has a "METAL BODY" battery cover which is even more so aggravating the heat. I am quite confident that this overheating problem is not just my phone's thing. The Wave possibly has a design flaw unless maybe my phone's battery is defective.
I personally believe the Wave has a default overheating problem.
I have taken the phone back to the dealer and service centre and am in the process of getting it replaced. The dealer has agreed for the replacement and also the fact that if I want I can buy the Samsung Galaxy S by paying the extra difference of around 10K. But again I have been reading a lot of people reporting about this overheating problem in GALAXY S as well. DONT want to get stuck with the big Elephant. Maybe this is a common problem with many Smartphones. Also that I have read elsewhere that the iphone has had these issue as well. As of now I have not been able to decide whether I should get a new Wave or take the Galaxy.
Can anyone else confirm if they are facing this issue of OVERHEATING on the back side of the phone in both WAVE & GALAXY S ?
Will update how I go about.
