Buying a new Home Theater - Sony vs Mivi vs zebronics

I am travelling and presently in Kanyakumari. Expect to be back on/around 16 or 17 Nov.
You don't have any HIFI or Home Theatre shops in kanyakumari but in Trivandrum.
There is a shop called Eham digital in mall of travancore. It has AVRs and speakers. Infact, they have a demo room with Benq 4k projector, POlk Signature speakers, oppo Bluray player and SOme Denon AVR. Polk subwoofer too. You can ask for a demo there. Also, search if there are any HT shops in Trivandrum.

Reached home last night.
Due to present road conditions in Kerala (due to road widening work), we couldn't reach Thiruvananthapuram as scheduled (We expected to reach by 3pm but reached only at 9pm and lost the opportunity to visit a couple of shops. Someone also suggested an AVR shop called Audipro in Thiruvananthapuram but couldn't visit any shops.

Checked the Eham Digital website, and it shows that they have a shop in Kannur also. Will check with them and then will give a visit there sometime this week.

Looks nice product, but I am not comfortable in buying used products as if any repairs have to be done after using sometime then I will be in a problem as there are no service centers of these products anywhere near my place.

Also found Eham digital (as suggested by @ajuvignesh - post no.42) has a shop in Kannur which is around 40kms away from my home. I will check with them if they have any AVR's in stock or the branch is only a service center.

Update

Eham digital not responding properly.

Meantime visited one store today, and they have the Philips Soundbar TAB8967 in display (demo piece). Its sound pretty good and last unit they sold at Rs.42,000/- (believe available on Amazon at Rs.39,999)

Details

Denon AVR-x580BT available on Amazon for Rs.35,680, but the Phillips system comes with wireless SUR speakers and Sub woofer.?

Nothing much happened over the last few days as unable to come to a conclusion which one to go for.

In the meanwhile I met the service engineer of DTH services (he is the local installer of all DTH's like SUN, Airtel, Tata Play) whom I know for many years. I have discussed with him about my problem and asked his opinion which one to go for.

His opinion is not to go for new AVR's or Home Theaters until I am ready to change the TV. Buying an AVR will not help to enjoy Dolby Atmos with the present LCD TV & speaker setup (no eARC port either in receiver or in TV) as present Sony 5.1 speakers not compatible for Atmos sound (no dedicated speaker for Atmos).

Even if I have to enjoy some virtual Atmos effect, then at least I need to buy a soundbar with Atmos speaker features.

At the moment, with the present set up, I can enjoy 3.1 surround sound without any problem from my present Home theater set up and using Amazon Fire TV stick.

Considering above facts and the programs we watch on TV (mostly Malayalam channels which do not come with Atmos sound compatibility), I think it is better to wait for some more time and go for a new set-up all together, i.e. new TV with Home theater system.

Will take it up further after a couple of months, unless if any immediate change of mind.

Thanks all of you for your valuable inputs.

There is no relationship between TV and audio. I had a 1080p TV and still enjoyed Atmos on my HT setup AVR.

Fire to avr to tv.

Tv does tv things, avr does audio things.

Even a modern soundbar with HDMI in, will do the same.

However, it is fine if you want to postpone. It's your call after all, just wanted to put this out so that there is no misconception.

Yes, I too have got a similar opinion from others. A good soundbar with Atmos feature and at least one HDMI IN port and one HDMI eArc out port (maybe ARC out port?) will do the job.

Anyway, it is end November now, and I think I will wait for Xmas or New year offers from Amazon to go for a sound bar.!

I have one more question - New soundbar will be connected as - Fire TV to HDMI IN of soundbar and Soundbar HDMI Out to TV. This point is ok. With this set up, can I continue using present connection simultaneously i.e. my present Sony HT receiver to the TV by optical or HDMI cables and as such will I be able to hear audio from this connection (my existing speakers) also?

You need ARC or eARC ONLY when you need audio from TV to come to the soundbar or AVR.

When your firestick/appletv/jio box is connected to HDMI IN, the HDMI OUT doesn't need to go to the ARC.

I was using mine with a VU tv from 2012 which didn't have ARC.

The soundbar is handling the audio and sending the video signal to the TV.

As I was expecting, there are no year-end offers from Amazon, so postponing my purchase plan to next year.

Further, I was advised by a close friend whose finding is as under:

If we buy an AVR, then we can connect existing speakers to it and enjoy 5.1 surround sound but cannot enjoy Dolby Atmos since I don't have an Atmos supporting speaker.

So, the question is whether to go for a soundbar with Dolby Atmos surround feature (JBL BAR 500 pro - Rs.42,999 or Phillips TAB8967 7.1ch - Rs.39,999 or ...) and enjoy Atmos feature (though not many TV channels are broadcasting Atmos sound content now but having an advanced feature will help for future requirements).

If I buy an AVR, say Denon x580BT at Rs.34,900 and connect my existing 5.1 speakers without any possibility of Atmos sound system. In this case, I will be paying extra Rs. 5099 if opt for Phillips or Rs.8099 if I go for JBL, but I get all new speakers, soundbar with wireless and Bluetooth features.

Anyway, I have some more time to take a decision.!

There is a certain level of convenience that comes with a Soundbar based system that cannot be used be matched by separates.

Some of the better ones come with wireless subwoofers and surround speakers which make the system a bit neater (with caveats)

If you have a dedicated room or a living room/lounge that you want to use this in I'd suggest separates. But in a bedroom type situation go for a soundbar.

Prices go up and down all the time. Products were cheaper than prime day/ bb sale a couple of weeks ago. Use a price history tracker/addon (chrome) for comparison.

Great Republic Day sale is on with Amazon and the Phillips soundbar TAB8967 is now priced at Rs.35,999 (previous price was Rs.39999). Maybe another 5% discount for Prime members!

However, my family members are not agreeing my plan for going all new 5.1 or 7.1 system again as they are not happy with the present 5.1 set up going to be put in some corner of the house simply as a scrap (no one is going to take 15-year-old HT systems set up).

In view of this situation, wondering if I can buy a soundbar only (Front left and right speakers are the ones not working in my present 5.1 set up which can be substituted with a new soundbar) and connect. If I do this way, will it be possible to get all the 5.1 speakers in working condition.?

Is it possible to connect the existing 3.1 also to the new soundbar, or it has to be connected to the existing receiver only?
