Friends, i am looking to buy a 40 or 42 inch, Full HD, LED TV.
The TV will remain plugged in to my desktop via HDMI so no use of a smart TV.
Only emphasis is on picture quality (even sound quality is not an issue as i'll be using my desktop 5.1 for audio output) as i'll be watching 1080p movies in it.

My budget is max 55K.

I tried Samsung 40EH5000 and Sony 40EX430 and among these sony one looks better.

Would really appreciate if i can get some feedback on these models or suggestion on some other model from some other manufacturer (like LG) which suits my requirements.

Thanks in advance!

55k is good budget.
on your budget your choices
sony Ex 40 inch full hd---55k
panasonic full hd plasma 42 inch---47k

if distance is 6 ft,can try also semi hd 42 inch plasmas from samsung and panasonic.
demo all and decide which picture is pleasing you.with high qulaity files side by side comapre.

at 39k samsung 42 inch semi hd plasma has a separate thread here,is very good budget performer.many happy members.
in this budget plasmas will simply winner regarding picture.now you demo.

noh Lg has better marketing but if your choice is LED take sony.
and also demo plasmas from panasonic....picture wise much much better than sony EX series.

As you are using it as monitor better stay away from plasma..will end up having IR in no time...if you're not careful..
Both models are good..demo them..play with pic settings..settle with the one giving best pq.

^ correct.
yes as a monitor use stay away from plasma.
can cosider lcds instead of leds as desktop leds will be very eye stressing.also lcds will be cheap than leds.not much cheap though.

Samsung is good. But i think it will have to be LCD. I doubt you will get an LED TV of the size mentioned for this budget

if u r interested in samsung u can go for 5300...this model is available in southeast asia with this name..in india the model is named as 5330....

i bought the same model for 35k from jakarta...

i guess these guys are importing the models from there and selling it with margin here
but in 41k this seems to be a good deal...

check out for warranty tough

suggest u to check out this link:

PS: i m not promoting these guys :) its just to increase ur options

Thanks all for your inputs!
Considering the comments and the demo of these two Tv's i had pretty much made up my mind regarding sony model, and then i came across this:
Philips Diwali Offer

Of the mentioned TV's, 42PFL6577 seems like a good option and there is a 2 year cable subscription as well. The concept of DDB is definitely next gen, however question is on the clarity (of tv as well as DDB).
Does anyone have any idea on the clarity?

Philips deals looks promising as you buy everything and feel relaxed from bills for 2 years. But now want to know which panel 42PFL7977 uses

Was visiting stores today and came across Toshiba 40TL20ZE. The model is sleek, 3D and picture quality looked good. I personally have never used Toshiba products before so not sure how they hold up.
Does anyone has any reviews on this model or Toshiba's other model in general?

Don't you felt that it's 852*480 resolution is very low ?

yeah,i thought about it...but the friend will mainly see max 1.2 GB size downloaded movie and sd channels....
and I carried some real HD and semi hd files...it looked good enough from 6 ft distance....so got the deal.
I insisted him for a 42k range one...490 was avilable....
he was cool with the picture so got the deal.in fact pictures looked very good from 6 ft.yes from 2 ft the the dots was clearly visible...

no anguler viwe problem, checked many times, blacks are beutiful,no motion lag,all files played from onboard usb...33.5 was a great deal.even the shop owner was ready for emi at no extra cost..some offer was there...

I must vote for this TV in spite being a low res,for those who mainly want to buy plasma see TV and dvd quality(no blu ray quality)....at a super price.

hehe dont just get furious, and dont just judge tv just by tech spec.....beuty lies in the eye of the beholder.he was quite sastisfied with that after comparing 490 side by side....
43 inch in 33.5k if you dont call it a superdeal..what else..

people are quite intelligent enough over here to understand what good and bad for them also there is always a demo for evryone...no one is buying any tv even full hd at 20k even just by my words.

no one.

i shared the info.did not say please jump over the model and forget everything else......people has different budget and needs for different model.
my friends budget and need suited perfectly with that.thats it.
he was clearly told about the IR issue and taking care/maintanenace hassle(burn in,zooming to avoid logo etc) of a plasma unlike an lcd........he decided to buy it.

why you trying to behave as samajsevak.....buddy.

yes one point of yours I agree fully....blind pursuit of love towards plasma...so i am...

Intelligent people is not equal to always technology conscious people..not that I judging any..
Though paying 33k for that resolution..buyers should know all information/specifications before buying a tv cause he might use it to playback higher resolution file one day..
Also all plasma tvs don't hold great pic quality of higher end plasma...black level will be good..then what about the peak white and contrast ratio..lower peak white will render pic dull even in dim light also.
He could get a good crt tv with similar resolution in much lower price..if the purpose is to get as much high size in low price then why not go with a local brand..
Also samsung doesn't give extended warranty on plasma..if by slightest mistake there is any kind of IR issue it will drive anyone crazy which is not even covered in normal warranty.

This doesnt hold true in this case, specs matter atleast essential ones like 850x480 resolution vs 720P tv.

You have forced your friend to buy that TV only to satisfy your ego and blind love of plasma, nothing else. :clapping:

+1,very logically said lake.yes you are correct.
not that every plasma is great as ST and GT...
but thats why we compared almost 2 hours continous 400,490
sammy full hd led(forgot model),sony BX lcd.....all side by side with same files.
we were satisfied with the picture considering the value.even I was sceptical about the res,but after comparison belive me the pictures looked good in the panel from a 6 ft distance.
so the deal was final.

sammy full hd leds were better no doubt than this model in terms of res(pixeletion fromn close distance)...and better in some scenes.

490 was obviosly better,

sony BX 40 inch full hd lcd was at par with that....except the same reso factor from 4 ft.....

in total at 33.5 it was a good deal..simple.and if someone is really intersted or against this resolution, they can easily take a demo in thier citys with some good files...no harm in a demo experiment.......unless a view how can the picture be judged.
