Hi..
I was just looking at some forums and I see, Denon 1912 is just 22k in the USA.

In India, it sells for 47k. Crazy Indian Govt .

So, how about importing it from USA ?

Has anyone done it in the last ?

What measures to take ? What process to go for ?

Any special convertors needed ? :indifferent14:

If you wish to import, I will advise importing from Europe/Singapore instead. The 110V/60Hz is a big hassle, I can assure you. You will need a transformer and that will lie in a corner and collect huge amount of dust, webs and mites.

If you are thinking of ordering it from online sources, there is the shipping cost and customs duty to be considered. The shipping cost alone will be 3/4th the cost of the AVR (assuming best rates) while the customs duty will be 27% approx on base price+shipping cost. So price may well exceed 47K, if you route this way.

Bringing in on person with carry on baggage is on option. But then again 110V/60Hz is still an issue.

A small matter is about warranty and support. I have imported (brought with me) AVRs from abroad and faced not a single problem but if these develop, there is no local support. International warranty is not worth the paper it is printed on.

Warranty is fine. I dont need it, as I take ultra care of my stuff and I have been to any service center for any of my equipments.

But what to do with the convertor ?

That 110 to 220 :O

I agree to the issues.I got Pioneer sc-37 AVR from US.Spent around 4k for the step down transformer.

How did you get it ? Someone brought it as baggage ?:)

And is it easy to get those step down transformers here ?

Oh wait, why step down ?

It should be step up, I guess ?

110 to 220 , right ?

I bought my panasonic 1020K from USA. I took a second suitcase full of eatables and on my way back got the receiver. Customs were happy when I showed my bill.

and yeah - a good step down..as its making 220 into 110 is bulky and costly too...a decent one costs around 4K atleast and weights 5-10kgs - at least mine does

Just last week I had my parents carry a HK 3600 from the US... Cost me 21k + 4k for a 1.5Kva step down transformer... The same avr cheapest in India is around 42k @ avenue sound... Btw the 1912 is less than 40k as far as I remember... Infact I remember Denom posting a price of 36.5k with bill & warranty a few months back... Also in the US if One knows how to find the right deal than the price of the 1912 is well below the 18k mark... But I strongly feel if someone carries it for u then it's a good deal but importing it does not makes that much sense...

yes.My friend brought it for me.The funny thing was, the HYD customs guys did not care for it that day.;).
Yes you can get the step down(from local 220v to 110v input to amp). You should choose the right wattage.Better take 10% more watts than the peak power delivered by amp for all the channels combined.
