Really, Is it worth the risk? I know there will be no warranty for the products and all....

I'm planning to Buy AV receiver with projector from there..As it costs almost double in here for some products :(

I need to know few things...

Customs duty charges (Will I get full refund of these charges when the item got delivered?)
Also what is the threshold for Customs duty charges to be applied in the 1st place?

Shipping time for normal delivery ?

Please guide me through this..

30% Custom Duty on on the Item cost+Shipping+Insurance. Also something Custom officer might not accept the Value provided in the Bill, They will access the value and charge the Custom.

Say for Example u get 100$ item with 30$ on shipping insurance = then U end up paying 39$ as Customs- So total price u pay for the goods will be 169$ for 100$ Product.

Thanks! I thought the customs only come into play after 45-50K INR purchases ?

The customs charges are included when we buy them anyways.

can be 50-50. if you are buying something that is not much in value then fine else better to avoid taking risk. what are you looking to buy?

If you buy through amazon.de, you should be able to claim German VAT reduction (18% if I remember) - which can offset your customs duty by a bit. As per rules, custom duty is applicable depending upon the article category.

I have purchased from both amazon.com and amazon.de, but in my case delivery was not to India. I had the packages (DSLR camera lens) delivered to Belgium (I was living there at that time). For the amazon.de package, German VAT was reduced, and I was charged Belgium customs. For the amazon.com package, I was charged Belgium customs on top of the price I paid at amazon.com.

best,
apk

I think if you buy from amazon.de and the delivery within EU then VAT is charged but if the delivery is outside the EU the VAT is automatically reduced. This is shown on the amazon site based on your shipping address provided the item is deliverable to India.

I bought a Projector from Amazon.de last October for 500 EUR, Landed cost was near INR 49K including all. Before that bought one or two cheaper items 80~150$ from Amazon.com. Now-a-days most of the product Amazon ships to India from .de/.com are calculated with shipping and customs included (mind that item should be amazon fulfilled). So if with shipping + customs, the item is way cheaper than Indian price, you can go for it. and yes warranty wont be there (unless the product has a global warranty).

The transaction can be done in INR or in EUR/USD. In case of INR, amazon calculate the conversion rate with the conversion charge which is little more than bank's conversion charge. But in case of a refund you get full amount back in INR. If you chose EUR/USD, you get the rate on the day they process the refund, so you may gain or loose some amount based on the conversion rate of that day.

Return works with you pay first for shipping back, and you get money back for shipping too on actual bill + item price you paid with shipping (not sure about the customs part). This info I got from call center in Amazon.com. Never did a return though. And if I remember correctly, in my case the invoice reduced the Germany VAT (reduced at source).

For me the projector landed my home within 7 days. You will get call from DHL/UPS/FedEX for some scanned documents - photo ID, PAN, declaration that item is for personal use etc. Your product gets cleared by customs the next day (hope that no holidays during that time) you send the documents.

In some cases you get some amount refunded if customs charge Amazon collected is more than the actual customs paid. But if the actual customs is more, Amazon absorb the extra (which happened in my case, I did not have to pay the extra 16EUR).

A decent AV receiver (Yamaha RX-V581 in mind) and a pair of Polk Audio 255C-RT speakers mainly.

buy the avr but speakers does not make sense. also keep in mind if anything goes wrong with avr, it will be handled under chargeable basis inspite of being under warranty, atleast in casse of yamaha.

for speakers, you have wide variety available locally at various price points so suggest you buy them locally. my humble advise, but ultimately your decision.

Thanks! I'm considering buying both from India only..

I and a few fellow members had purchased few HT items and that time we had got a very good deal. Onkyo 609 AVReciever for about 35000 landing at Mumbai (55000 mrp during tat time..was selling for approx 48000 after discounts.) , and JBL WirelessSubwoofer of 400 watts for just 20000 landing at mumbai which was selling at about 35000 that time. The scheme that time was,, buy any HT product and just pay 40 Euros (roughly 3000 rupess) for shipping and customs. A couple of us from this forum took the risk and ordered the AVR and Subwoofer .. And the sub was more than 20Kgs .. If we want to ship the same sub from Delhi to Mumbai it would surely cost more than 3000 /40euros. Till date both the devices are workin fine. This was in 2012.

I know that the scenario wd hav changed now. But since I saw this amazon.de Thread I wished to share my experience. Hope it helps.

Hi,

I want to buy Optoma HD142X projector from Amazon.de, the website shows 469 euros...... can someone guide me how to buy?

1) Have online bank account. Can I purchase thru it?
2) What will be their final price including taxes, customs?
3) products' voltage will be the same as India?
4) Any other site which offer better price?

Thanx in adv
