Hi,

I came across philips 40PL4757 LED Backlight - LCD
It is full HD. with 120 hz cmr, 39 inch.
2 HDMI ports, with 1 USB - plays mkv, mp4 and avi formats
Costs around 34-40 K in bangalore. I wonder why sony and other brands are hyped.

Btw did you get chance to demo phillips with sony side by side?

Nope, I did not get to see 39 inch model from philips, but did have a look into 32 inch model.
Seems better than sony BX and EX series of same size.
I wonder why all showrooms give lukewarm response to brands like panansonic, philips and sharp.

In-fact, Re-connect models is better than basic models of sony (BX), in terms of picture quality. Not sure, whether some models are deliberatly tweaked for looking better.

Yes. I too saw reconnect and I felt it was good. It is true that settings are jacked up for some brands making them brighter than others. For example bajaj electronics heavily promotes lg.
The very first sets that are displayed immediately when we enter the shop will be lgs. Sony will be at the far off corner.
For example I saw that around 10 toshiba 32 inch sets were placed all side by side and above and below each other, covering all the model numbers.
Then one of the models of the same toshiba is tweked for extra brightness, contrast and sharpness.
The consumer immediately feels that this model of toshiba is better than the other toshiba models and immediately books it.
To target the consumers who do their own research and come is little different.
Offers, passive 3d, free usb with godforsaken movies, anti finger print glass facia tvs are some of them.

@just4kix - thanks for uploading the pics buddy. Guess, the last pic of siddhu is an excellent example of the performance of the ST50 under fluorescent tube lights.
BTW, I'm 100% sure that these pics don't do justice to the actual representation of the displays. I guess a DSLR pic will be better to the represent blacks, colors and other fine details that these dispalys could reproduce...

And is the window from L.Balalji's pic the left side one or is there any other window in the rear?

There is one window in the rear, not directly opposite but to the far right of the TV (opposite corner).

Btw, the picture of Siddhu is with my normal setting and not dynamic mode.

Try to get this 40EH5000R within that budget or stretch your budget to get this. Always, bigger the better.

BTW, heard some great reviews about the EH5000 model. Confirm with the forum members.

why are you targetting 32 inch at 45k budget...
sammy 490 plasma is 42k only..
2013 line is around 45k maybe...check it
panasonic plasma xt 44k..
toshiba 40 inch lcd 32k..with manufacture 3 years warranty.(was a special offer..dont know now)..normally 38k...

and in 32 inch full hd is not really needed...its just a hype..
you will see pixels if you intend to inspect by touching your nose on screen;)........otherwise no..:ohyeah:

I will be watching all the time sd channels(no HD) and occasionally 700mb dvdrips at a distance of 8 feet, even then can i go for 40 inches tv instead of 32 inches tv.
But according to distance table as shown by just4kix it reads:
1. In 32 inches tv for 480p,720p,1080p to be all equivalent in pq we should watch from minimum distance of 11.25 feet( measure from the table below)
2. In 40 inches tv for 480p,720p,1080p to be all equivalent in pq we should watch from minimum distance of 14 feet.(measure from the table below)

At a viewing distance of more than 7ft & especially since you are spending 40-45k, go for a minimum of 40"-42". You will never regret it.

The diagram below is to get the max off the resolution which is relevant today only if you compare hd to 4k probably. Screen size is a bigger display & as often quoted here "Bigger the Better".

That graph talks about the benefits of a particular resolution become more and more apparent and useful when looked at panel size and viewing distance. The normal human angle of vision is 46 (becomes less with people suffering from glucoma). The optimum viewing distance to panel size is as per THX is:

1) For 30 angle of view: viewing distance = 1.6 x diagonal panel size
2) For 40 angle of view: viewing distance = 1.2 x diagonal panel size

BTW, if you are sure that you are not going to watch much of Full HD content, I will advise you for a HD ready set rather than a full HD set. The PQ of SD content in HD ready set is way better than a full HD set. Also you'll able to save substantial amount of money. Even full HD looks quite brilliant in a HD ready set (of course it will not be same like a full HD).

But my dear friend, way forward is that world is shifting to Full HD and in fact soon 4K (double HD).

Hey what about Samsung E450 plasma TV.... its available for 32K 43" and 46K 51".

excellent 720p panel from Samsung, has received some very good reviews all over giving you very good price vs performance. The E series comprise 450/470/490.

E450 is the basic entry level non 3D plasma vs E490 also having support for 3D. Choice is yours, all 3 are excellent tv's.

With the launch of the new 2013 line up, the E490 has now been replaced with the F4900 for the same price. If you have a budget of 40-44k, suggest to go with 43F4900.
