Buying Plasma TV

Hi

I have a panasonic 42 inch plasma and it is really good. In hindustan times delhi edition of 10 august there are some really good offers on panasonic plasmas including one of a 50 inch 3D plasma for 1.07 lakhs. Am myself considering if I should upgrade to a bigger plasma.

Cheers

Its dependent on Size vs pQ.
If you want a bigger screen 51D550 is a good bet. Good performance plasma, has good 3d and superb video processor (I was told).

If you want better Picture Quality, and dont mind coughing up cash for that, then 42ST30 is good. Panasonics are bit overpriced, but you do get some of the best plasmas on the planet. (ST30 is neck and neck with VT25 series, which was their flagship plasma last year).

thank you all....i received few receommnedations for buying, anyone would like to add?

-->Samsung 51D 550
--> panasonic 42ST30

As mentioend earlier, Budget under 70k, 42 or 50 inch, 1080p, good sound output.

Hi,
I'm also looking for buying a plasma and visited Shah's and Vivek's to chi out few models. Both of them don't have Plasma's and they were quoting plasma is outdated and generates lot of heat and pq is not sharp. Is that true?. I'm eyeing on the following models:

Pana 42U30D - Can't find any where
Samsung 43D450/490

I saw Samsung 40D550 in Viveks and was quoted 48.5K

Hi, I am Shankar here and this is my very first post. I truly want to thank every member here for such insightful comments and knowledge they share here. My vote is for Panasonic Plasma and I suggest you buy from the Panasonic showroom. You do your research and get the best price you can from where ever and I can help you get it at a better price as I have been buying stuff from that Manager for the last 18 years:-) this goes for anyone here.

I wonder what could be the reason for propagating such lies, that too by salesmen. No, what they said is not true.

Just heard this from my friend.
Plasma panels needs to be filled with fresh gas every 3 years.
Is it correct?

This is another myth about plasma. Next time when you hear someone says this, ask him through which socket the gas is filled :p

FYI : First Commercial LCD TV - 1988
First Commercial Plasma TV - 1992

Which one is older?

I have 2 plasmas, one is 2 years old. No gas refilling. You cant anyway.

Also, if you think plasmsa are not clear and good , search for "Kuro" reviews. My panny ST30 panel can give best of the best LCD's run for their money.

hi .. I am planning to buy Pana plasma VIERA TH-P50U30D. I took audition today but was totally disappointed with the picture sharpness. Besides this 50 inch plasma, the dealer had 42X30d when compared the performance with 50U30, the X30d was wonderful. I am too confused now as I had made my mind to buy the 50U30D. The dealer mentioned the image in 50U30D is not sharp because the screen is bigger than the 42 inch one. I have not been able to find this issue anywhere on the net.

I also checked with him if the issue was due to settings being not accurate.. he was not able to give an answer. Please help me on finalizying on which plasma to buy..

is it VIERA TH-P50U30D or should I be going for a smaller 42 inch X series.. or just go for an LCD 46 inch?

Your help would be much appreciated

Wonder why Samsung hasnt released the PN51D7000 plasma in India to compete with the high end Panasonics.

panasonic p42u30d vikas varma

Hi I am vikas varma,
I have just looked at your post and thought to tell you something. I have purchased pana p42u30d two monthe back for 42k. Very nice plasma. Sales people do not know anything about plasma. They suggest the products to you according to their own targets and profit margins.
Plasma generates heat little bit but it is not a problem .I have used my plasma for 4 or 6 long continoues hours. Plasma technology was facing threats before 2005.Now a days this the best product you can get in the market in this range.

More over lcd and led are the worst products in the market in terms of viewing technology. They all have problem of blurr and are not reliable enough to invest huge money in that. This the reason their prices comes down to hell like 10k or 20k in a short time span. I had purchased sasung LED in december 2010 for 27k(26inch). it came down to 18k in just six months. Moreover both lcd and led are not meant and made for watching tv and videos. They were made for computers use and manufacturers are pushing this worst product to make huge profits.

This is the reason they have now stopped making crt tv and focussing more on lcd and led. If you wish to ask something about pana p42u30d, u can tell me.

This is not correct . One of my friend has been using pana plasma for last 5 or 6 years . Nothing happened. Working perfectly.

I am in the initial stage of buying a TV.
My budget is 35K and a max of 40K depends on some extra features like HD and higher refresh rate.
I started with LCDs. Done audition of some.(was interested in Sony, Samsung and panasonic).
Left sony because of higher price and compliants about panels and higher service cost.
Selected Samsung C550 LCD and went for an audition.
That is the time i realize importance of higher refresh rate.
Sales executive showed me the difference b/w a TV with 50Hz and 100Hz.(Sammy C550 and Panny 32D25 which was LED).
Price quoted was 45K for 32D25 at the time.
Though it had many features, didn't feel it as worth.
Just checked plasmas as they are fitting in my budget.
Left plasmas initially because of some of the comments got through friends and internet.
Plasmas are having higher refresh rates and are available in bigger size(Nothing can beat the experience of watching movies in bigger screen:))
I need some clarifications
1) Why plasmas are not recommended for gaming and connecting to PC.
2) What is the break in period in plasmas.
3) What is burn in issues in plasmas.
4)What are the difference between G14 panel(in U30) and Progressive HD Panel(in X30)
I am almost zeroed into Panasonic plasmas(42" X30 or U30)

1) Why plasmas are not recommended for gaming and connecting to PC.

Mainly due to image retention issues. Latest plasmas have negligible IR so you should be fine with it. How long do you usually play games?

2) What is the break in period in plasmas.

100 hours, generally.

3) What is burn in issues in plasmas.

Static images such as channel logos get burned in the pixels so that you see them even after changing the channels or switching the TV off. As I said new plasmas are not prone to burn in issues. They come with features such as Whitewash/Pixel shifting to eliminate image retention/burn in.

The 50incher 3D LG Plasma PZ 550, Full HD, is selling at Croma, Gurgaon with a price tag of around 64k. With negotiations and with the interest free installment scheme it works out to 59k. It comes with a pair of 3d glasses in the box. Two years additional croma warranty is priced at 3k so for around 62k you get TV + 3 years warranty + 1 pair of 3D glasses.

Great pricing. Check it out.

I think another reason for the plasma panel is not recommended for use as monitor is its low resolution ( particularly of the 42 inch models) This make it unpleasant to view at close distances. Most 42 inch plasmas have only 1024x720 ( or 768) resolution. While in the old 15 inch / 17 inch CRT monitors, we used to set resolution of 1024 x 768 or even 1,280 x 1,024. You see while the plasma's viewing area is is nearly 8 times larger, the resolution remains more or less the same. So at close view the picture is very blurred.

"Plasma" do not have such resolution, but some of the HD Ready Plasmas do. Full HD Plasmas have a native resolution (including PC) as 1920x1080 just like any other LCDs. However Text and Graphics look better on an LCD and Video look better on a Plasma (typically).
