Buying Plasma TV

"Plasma" do not have such resolution, but some of the HD Ready Plasmas do. Full HD Plasmas have a native resolution (including PC) as 1920x1080 just like any other LCDs. However Text and Graphics look better on an LCD and Video look better on a Plasma (typically).

Hi
I bought a 32" LG plasma 3 yrs ago, I also have a 40" Samsung LCD.
The plasma is better while watching TV, the colours are vibrant, fast picture movement and can be watched from a greater angle, cons too much reflection
LCD picture is fantastic if the input is HD, otherwise the plasma is better
my opinion

Hi frnd,

Little off the topic, i just visited a reliance digital store in chennai looking for a flat panel around 40k. I ve seen few 32inch lcd and one 42 inch plasma panasonic full HD model, costing about 39k. Wht i ve observed is the panna screen was warmer inspite of it a central ac mounted showroom. So my qsn is i want to place the tv in my bed room what will be the heat dissapiated in due course of time with out ac.
In latest plasmas how much heat they dissapiate??

Thanx in adv.

I'm not sure if this is related, but showroom settings of plasma are with high brightness to compensate for their lights, which could possibly cause each plasma bulb to run hotter than they usually would at your home.

This is not too much of an issue with modern plasmas. Older models consumed more power, ran hotter and had a buzzing sound at the back.

Re: panasonic p42u30d vikas varma

Hi I am vikas varma,
........................ I have purchased pana p42u30d two month back for 42k. Very nice plasma. ................

vikas varma

I am also planning to buy this in one or two weeks. How is your experience in viewing SD TV channels on this plasma ? And what with HD channels ? Do you feel any cons in this model ?
I found power consumption is almost double or triple than LCDs. (says 350W).

Also have you watched any 3D plasma or LCD models ?. 3D prices also are coming down. Is it worth to spend extra money on 3d TVs ?

68k in bangalore and 66 in chennai. :)

Hi Kittu,

This is Senthil from chennai and I'm planning to buy 42ST30. can you please let me know where can i get this model for 66K?.

Also need one other suggestion, I'm seated 16 feet from my TV so let me know if i can go for 50'ST30. I know this will be good for HD channels, will this distance be good to watch SD channels?

16 ft is more than enough for a 50 incher. Get a 50 and enjoy rather than being stuck up with a smaller 42 screen. In my opinion for HD content anything above 7-8 ft is more than sufficient for a 50 inch

unique!

^i'm honestly ignorant,...er which 32 LG pdp was that?...can u enlighten me/all plz & provide any link for that?

As far as I can remember it was PCR 5 or something this was in the market in around 2008 or earlier. At that time I was also considering the same but had to postpone the purchase. I had seen this TV and was impressed by its natural handling of the colours vis a vis the LCDs. This TV was cheaper than the LCD TVs at that point of time.

Found a Link for the same http://www.techgadgets.in/displays/2007/22/32-inch-plasma-tv-launched-by-lg/

Yes This was two yrs ago from Snehajali Andheri Mumbai, usally 32" do not come in plasma, the TV (LG) clarity is good however it does not have HDMI or USB inputs

hello All,

my name is Rajeev and am from Bangalore.. this is my first post. Am planning to buy Plasma TV. -LED too expensive- my preference is plasma because of color depth and good size: price ratio. i would really appreciate if you can help me to buy a good plasma Television. my requirements are as follows

-> prefer a 50 inch screen.
--> Brand...is Samsung a good buy against Panasonic...as Panasonic is knows as "king of plasma"
--> budget of 70 k ( max)
--> Recommended dealer in Bangalore? i stay in c.v.raman nagar

Lastly even though i prefer plasma is that a good option ? please let me know your expertise view.

thanks in advance.

Hi, you can go for the panasonic 50U30 which is a full HD 1080p 2D plasma TV. They also have a 720p HD ready plasma 50X30 which is one model below the U series. If you can stretch your budget to 80k, you just might be able to get the 50V20, which is one of the if not the BEST 2D TVs in the market. Please let me know your final choice.

Regards

Sorry it does have HDMI no USB

my friend...u just need to look into newer models like Samsung 51 D550 plasma to feel how much sleeker & lighter plasma tv has become...though mayb bit more weighter than equal dimension led, but they are right at the top along with led tv for the amount of sleekness they have attained....they carry a lot of oomph factor,more than most current lcd & also a lot of these so called led tv's!

1 thing is very true, other than a bit higher power consumption of the plasma tv(which is again variable,unlike lcd/led tvs) & some screen reflection (which can be adjusted), there is nothing that can truly beat a plasma tv in the Quality of the picture it generates,which i think is the sole decider for most of the ppl buying a New HDTV today!

I totally agree..............PLASMA is here to stay!!! we should try to educate people to make a wiser decision.

thank you all....i received few receommnedations for buying, anyone would like to add?

-->Samsung 51D 550
--> panasonic 42ST30

As mentioend earlier, Budget under 70k, 42 or 50 inch, 1080p, good sound output.

if 3D is not a concern, then I would go for size..............you can easily get a good 50inch samsung or panny within your budget. 42ST30 is a very good 3D TV. But why spend so much on 3D? Better to get a good 2D 50inch tv. Alongwith the Samsung 51D550, you might also want to check out pan 50U30. Demo both the tvs and then decide.

FYI : First Commercial LCD TV - 1988
First Commercial Plasma TV - 1992

Which one is older?

I have 2 plasmas, one is 2 years old. No gas refilling. You cant anyway.

Also, if you think plasmsa are not clear and good , search for "Kuro" reviews. My panny ST30 panel can give best of the best LCD's run for their money.

Congratulations on the ST30, good choice indeed. I have the 50V20 and just love it so I would imagine the ST30 to also be breathtaking.

Hi, lot of people are very confused of viewing distance and many try to set some sort of a formula. The facts remains that viewing distance is dependent on video content. HD would require you to be seated closer than viewing SD. I have a pan 50V20 and I sit at 8ft while watching 1080p video. If you do not sit close enough while watching HD, you will not be able to experience the magic HD has to offer. Similarly if you sit close while watching SD you will hate the picture and start blaming the tv or DTH service. Pan 50ST30 is an excellent 3D tv. However, if you do not need 3D then 50V20 would be a better choice, you cant beat that TV. Hope that helps, pls let me know which tv you do pick up.

ST30 has a faster acting phosphor than V20. Also, slightly better contrast ratio, and a bit brighter than V20.
Also, ST30 features Infinite Black pro vs Infinite Black on Indian V20.
ST30 features a lot better format support from USB playback, DLNA, HDMI 1.4 with Audio Return Channel.

So, no its not just 3D on St30... But yes, v20 is damn good for the price level they are sold at the moment.
