can you get KILLED by headphone amps/ laptops?

Less likely to kill you compared to your refrigerator, microwave or toaster :)

don't worry... It's one of the freak occurrences. Most of the electronic equipment have failsafe mechanisms. Anyways for safety sakes, ensure you have adequate ventilation around your gadgets & never ever cover the fans

I dont understand how come some people become so careless when using electronic gadgets.....its a case of improper usage and carelessness.......

I have even seen people putting their laptops under blanket and charging !! I think its a new way of committing suicide !!

I have written in various threads about the need for good earthing and proper circuit breakers. About a week ago, my new PC short circuited for some reason. My circuit breakers tripped and all my equipment were safe.

When we get comfortable with something we tend to overlook some basic safeguards. Never sleep with ANY electrical equipment on your body.

Prolonged use of headphones is also dangerous as you could get Tinnitus.

Cheers

This was a case of failure of the DC converter or that brick we use to charge our laptops. We should recollect the recent instances where major manufactures like Sony , HP and other reputed brands have recalled products due to safety reasons.

The fatal incident here was due to man becoming too trusting of technology, and forgetting the myriad ways in which failures of the little gadgets can turn lethal.

what greatly increases the chances with laptop and headphones is the amount of time spent with them. You normally do not spend that much time with a fridge or a microwave.

This reminded me of the following fact :)

This guy who died was the husband of one of my ex colleagues. He may not have died of electric current may also be the case that while he fell asleep with the laptop powered on charge, something started burning in the laptop and the gas / fumes out of that in a closed room suffocated him to death. I have not seen the post mortem report but this is the version that I have heard. Laptop was Lenovo X201 which I also heard from some sources.

Engineer dies in bed, laptop & cell charred

He got to be killed by CO (Carbon Monoxide) generated by some electrical burning in the unventilated room.

I suggest that it is more likely to have been the fumes from burning plastics, which can include very lethal substances.

"Laptops" are abused and used dangerously by their very name. People simply expect that they are made for use on laps, carpets, cushions, bedclothes etc, and do not give a single thought to the ventilation and the need to disperse the heat that builds up inside during normal use, let alone charging. In most cases, it leads to nothing more serious (although expensive) than the machine only lasting a year or two. In some, it leads to actual damage to flesh or computer. In this case, to tragedy.

Whilst it is easy to talk about careless use, the number of laptop battery recalls over recent years, by big-name companies, is worrying. How many people ever bother to check the sites, to see if their machine is affected? Just possible that doing so might save a life.

Next time it may be our Smartphones.......the damage will be even greater as some of us carry it quiet close to our heart !!

Good point! Mine is always in that pocket.

I had never imagined that there could be such a danger with a phone, especially if it was not even in use at the time!

Without any research I can tell you everyone dies!
So sit with a smartphone in your pocket, laptop on your lap, and whatever gadgets wherever you want :yahoo:

It's true that we all must die, but that is no excuse for taking shelter under a tree, and nor is it an excuse for making your laptop only live a year or two!
