can you get KILLED by headphone amps/ laptops?

Without any research I can tell you everyone dies!
So sit with a smartphone in your pocket, laptop on your lap, and whatever gadgets wherever you want :yahoo:

Completely agree with you.It was so difficult keeping off the laptop away ,especially when you soak yourself in bathtub and relax. This article got me even worried.
Now i got myself a [;astic self which i keep across my bathtub and keep the laptop on it,while i can enjoy soaking in hot water in these winter days.
Such joys in life are to precious to give away for fear of death.:clapping:

Research has also invariably shows that 100% of people who drink whiskey, rum, beer or wine, dies. :yahoo:

Uuhhh ... I saw an expiry date printed on the bottle of booze I got last time ... I wonder whose it was ... the bottle or the consumer? Now you got me worried :o

Do not worry. The probability of someone dying in a road accident is 100,000 times more than death caused by such gadgets. So you should worry more about driving on Indian roads rather.

Hi friends...
Last week I was working with my laptop Hp Pavilion 6314tx, keeping on my lap. After 15 to 20 minutes of usage, hot air from the bottom of the laptop burnt my lap and a day after this incident I noticed a blister on the skin of my lap. Friends beware of all electric/electronic gadgets !!!!!!

All Dell's that I used (D,E and now M series) are better in this respect. The hot air ports are either at the back or on the sides. I wonder what the laptop HP designer thought when he/she located it on the hot air port on the bottom!

Lesson learnt the hard way! I expect your computer has suffered too.

If that blister doe not heal up quickly, please get proper medical advice.

Its even worse. Research has shown that those who use a laptop on their laps have very reduced sperm count. I would not worry so much about the blister. ;)

So ... Laptops are an effective form of contraception?

Hang on, dear... I'd better spend another couple of hours on the internet, just to be sure...

I don't have a bath tub so can't really figure that out :( but I would avoid typing emails in a bath tub :) maybe you need to connect your laptop to your large bathroom TV and use a wireless keyboard/ trackpad :D

Prolonged use of headphones is also dangerous as you could get Tinnitus

But, show me one headphone, just one... that can even come close to the great sound stage width of my Tinnitus . Even when you are alone in a dark place with complete silence, that's one friend that never leaves you. The more you concentrate, the 'better' it gets. Most bands I know don't really get "better" with concentrated listening.

So, tinnitus >> Music. Headphone + Hearing Loss >>>>>> Electric shock.

Very sad.

Few months back, i started getting a light tingly sensation when typing on my MAC laptop. Happened to notice that it happened only when i was charging it and it got stronger in the next few days.

After i changed my charger cable it is fine now...

I get it too ... and quiet frequently, anytime of the day. But I don't have the option of swapping the component that is tingling ... would have loved to swap it for an even larger one :licklips: Usually a visit to a girlfriend fixes the issue :ohyeah:

But more seriously, I sense a current from the vga cable, that I connect to my laptop, never thought about replacing the cable. Lemme check it with my multimeter. A good reminder from you about safety awareness!!

U can get killed any where any time but self aware and applying common sense would just minimize that possibilities, that's all.

:D:D

Is the power adapter ON when that tingling happens? If so check the adapter with a teter. My reliance HD adapter has a slight shock when touched. This is common with SMPS based adapters and the shocks are usually not lethal.

This is a very sad news to us. This guy and his wife are in my team when I was working in Kolkata. One of the possible reasons my collegues were saying that he died due to the inhalation of CO.

I started advocating to all my friends to not leave the laptop/power adapter on the bed over the night. I see lot of people doing this, especially IT bachelors. If the ventilation is blocked by blankets or pillows, then these things get very hot and there are some chances of they igniting a fire. Children are very vulnerable to this.

This is a old thread but couldn't stop posting on this..

Another anecdote:

Just yesterday, in one of the apartments in my complex, the couple left the laptop on sofa, with the charger on, and went out. While they were out, apparently the laptop melted/exploded, and caused a fire that burnt down the sofa and other furniture in the living room and threatened to explode the LPG cylinder in the kitchen.

Luckily the fire alarm went off, and the Fire Brigade dispatched 2 fire engines. The Fire Brigade was able to put out the fire before it became an inferno.

I wonder what it is with the chemistry of laptop batteries (typically Lithion-Ion nowadays) that makes them explode. On the other hand, haven't heard about UPS batteries exploding (typically sealed lead acid).

Scary story indeed.

the couple left the laptop on sofa,

Probably blocking the ventilation holes.

Little-known fact: Laptops are not made to be used on laps ...or any other soft surface. Even if it does not leads to fire, the overheating can seriously shorten the life of the product.

It's the heat generated. When laptop is placed on a hard surface, there is enough gap for the heat to dissipate from vents. When kept on soft surfaces such as a sofa, there is no gap for the heat to dissipate and vents also get blocked, hence heat gets trapped and heats up the laptop. It can then melt plastic and even catch fire. Batteries can explode on becoming very hot. People should not be careless about where they place and how they charge their equipment. Tablecloths are also not recommended because they could catch fire.
