What is the cheapest way to start storing all my cds onto harddisk format?

Also I cannot believe that there is any difference in sound quality between different transports connected to a DAC.

Its digital so there cannot be such differences which are often described as thin, or bass is slow, dynamics etc

I think you are talking about audio CDs. Use FLAC format to rip the ACDs to your HDD. FLAC is lossless format so you won't loose SQ. MP3 is lossy format and it will result in degradation of sound quality. Both CDs and MP3 are digital does not mean they sound the same.MP3 uses heavier compression and during this process a lot of information is lost.
