Re: Google Chromecast
I won an eBay bid on Google Chromecast for about $45 and it was delivered to me yesterday. I cancelled my Amazon order for the Chromecast after they gave me a delivery estimate between 18th Oct to 7th Nov.
As far as Chromecast device is concerned, I am extremely happy with it.
I have connected my Android phone/tablet and my laptop to it and it works like a charm.
There is a slight lag when you cast from your Chrome browser on your laptop but I was able to overcome this by lowering the resolution of the casting without noticing any visual difference. I am optimistic that this will change as this chrome browser mirroring feature is still in the Beta phase. This feature is the USP of Chromecast for me as I can view any video which can be viewed in the chrome browser of my laptop. This means watching bootlegged Bollywood flicks from the various websites available. This is a big plus for me.
Netflix and Youtube works perfectly without any hiccups when cast from my phone and tablet as remotes. I haven't seen any adverse effect on the battery life of my android devices. I had used apps like iMediaShare on the android devices before to stream videos via my XBox but that really takes a toll on the battery life of these devices. Chromecast works without any such issues as it directly streams video content from the cloud. Big plus!!
After about two days with the device I am pretty sure that it has already replaced my XBox as a media center.
I am very much optimistic that the app ecosystem for Chromecast will expend allowing more apps to cast video through Chromecast.
I pre-ordered one on Amazon as it is currently sold out everywhere. The tentative delivery date is by the end of August.
EBay dacoits are selling used for more than $75.
