Computer Monitor runs into trouble

Not very often but at least once a day when my Win 10 computer is left idle, display on one of the monitors goes off and it starts displaying this (picture below). When I disconnect HDMI and reconnect, it turns normal. This is connected to an Intel NUC's thunderbolt port using an adapter. Has anybody had similar kind of issue and been able to fix?

If not already done, I would first try to isolate the issue to whether it's a monitor, HDMI cable, adaptor, NUC hw or SW issue. Since you have two monitors, it should be easy to isolate the errant component

HDMI cable may be the culprit.
I had similar issue, after fiddling with cable the metal connector on the cheap HDMI cable came separated from the actual cable.

replaced it with amazon basic hdmi cable and it works fine now.
