Thanks denom for the pics , speakers look excellent .
Update :
Mr.Dilip from DNM offered me to ship to bangalore in 9k,kneo or any one else willing to join and review these ..
Plan is :
A 24bit dac kit(33 USD along ebay), tripath, these DNMs : a very sweet sounding chain for entry level guys 15k

------Entry level hifi challenger setup :15k--------
Dac is bang for buck ... as i tested has a wolfson chip
Tripaths ... all know are well performers
DNM speaker model SCS808 : must be good frm pics and comments
interconnects : the elcheapo panasonic OFC cable (300Rs , chroma) /DAC cable (Rs 500, our hifi store),DIY silver sonic ( 2000Rs,check my thread for silver ICs)

That entry level buys for may are warfs , and CA S30, usher entry level speakers : Did not like at all ANY of them .
One common flaw is lack of low freq extn , the sound stage is very much dependent on that .

Only concern is that the DNM should also perform well in 42hz range , as for the size i am not sure how comfy BASS it will radiate

OMG !!

42 Hz.. on axis. ??. off axis..??

arent we expecting too much from a 9k speaker ?? The lack of bass does not detract from the sound quality if paired corrrectly.

To generate bass.. you need to move air.. and that will need a bit bigger drivers..

But you have to see what floats your boat. YMMV..

Besides it is better to be surprised by having lower expectations than expecting the poor lil thing to perform at 42 Hz and trash it in the end saying its got no bass.

rgds,

Could someone talk with them and some other speaker maker that I had read about by (Denom I think) in some other thread, to build cabinets for our Western Indian participants of group buy of GRR kits.

Bro, the cabs can be made by a speaker maker I know, let the persons interested get in touch with me. I will put them onto him.

My source would be a WDTV. I don't think I'd be able to connect the optical out to Tripath isn't it? Any other 'budget' option for source too?

The dac kit is like this : TE7022 WM8761 24Bit/96Khz USB DAC Decoder RCA Coaxial Out + USB line | eBay

no claim to beat CDP but <2k it is one good DAC.
mpw ,

i am a speaker noob in technicals.. but the specs said 38Hz to 18Khz so i am expecting a good low, may be for a near field distance
there are other options like used tannoy BS in 9k or import of tannoy F1 ,
These go 70GBP in UK and we can have shipped in 10k .
TANNOY-MERCURY-M2 from ebay US (price 99USD)

I am in double mind ,want to be sure how is low freq extn ?
expecting the best in 1-2metre range.

spirovious ,
Any confidence you can give for BASS part ?? i will push off some old cell and grab a pair of DNM.

kneo ,
source i can recommend is is laptop (provided you have one ) via the dac i said

also i am not counting laptop as investment cos most people have one.
Or better dedicated one will be a <8k Tab with USB otg.

Well Bass was good considering its BS when played Diana Krall.Piano sounded nice, vocals very clean. When played Piya Basanti, sound was good, not the best.Difference in recording was noticeable.Again it was the DNM combo & not sure how will it sound with other amp.

For entry level Hifi,DNM set is the Best.

If I manage to figure out my source (via WDTV), I too would be willing to get the 808 from DNM. We can work out a group deal if required.

kneo dont expect much from WDTV the internal DAC of SB is only decent other media players are just for movies. May be a TAB + dac combo i will figure in 7k for people not having laptop.

I am just confused about a budget source. I don't want to spend more than 20K on a basic stereo setup. 9K for speakers + 5K for Topping. I don't have much left for source! And primarily all my music is going to be on a HDD or USB

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
