Hi
Bought x4800 recently
Breaking my head to make it sound the way i want it to.
Tried calibrating many times but...
Bought multi eq mobile and tried editing the curve. And still not there.
Is there anyway we could try multi eq laptop version and dirac for a nominal fee before actually purchasing it?

Hi Saiganesh,

What exactly you are missing with 4800 can you pls share your gears details to help?

Hi Saiganesh,

I had monitor audio silver rx6 tower and rx2 bookshelf and a centre from the same line. Was using pioneer lx57...all was good except i couldnt get higher spl with the setup (dedicated room too big -5000cuft). Svs sb3000 and sinfire 8" cube.
REcently bought x4800. Initially i was happy to find it reaching my required spl(satisfactory to ears) but the eq wasnt right. So switched off audysy xt32 and tuned my required eq. Almost there but was seriously missing the thumps and the hi's that i used to get with pioneer and also x4800 limited the spl with the eq switched on. Another problem with pioneer was it switched off centre, surround and sub pre outs ocassionally (though found a way around it) and it lacked 4k.

Tried multi eq app. Somehow fiddled around to get the curve i want but, it wont budge to my need. Either audysy is pushing me to purchase laptop version or the system itself is limited.

Another issue with x4800 is i could hear hiss from monitor audios (very feable) and also the sound isnt as smooth as in my pioneer. Tried crown xls series amp (front LR) and smoothnes almost there. But with the eq i cant reach the spl and also missing extreme hi frequencies and low thumps, that my pioneer still pulls out in my living room(also in the dedicated room)

Sorry just noticed your reply, what SPL you are trying to achieve usually 75 db to 80 db is good enough as reference SPL for HT. May be Audessy optimising reducing the SPL once you are done with the Audessy pls chk the SPL levels of each speaker using a simple mobile app and increase or decrease accordingly.

Also I have attached a reference file I got from somewhere will give you some more info

If your computer has multi-channel out, you can connect that to your avr and try dirac live demo on your computer (Not sure if the demo is available for multi channel audio) The sound quality will be bad because of the computer dac. But, you will get a glimpse of what room correction Dirac live does.
Hope it helps.

Actually each Brand AVR has its own unique sound signature. Even after tunning, something will sound different than old avr.

Hi Ganesh

I dont know how exactly you are using EQ, but EQ always reduces dynamic headroom. The more EQ you use, especially steep boosts, will always limit overall maximum volume and power to avoid clipping of the amp and damaging the speakers. This is just a protection measure built into every device. So never boost, but try to only clip peaks to achieve the sound you want. And another thing to bear in mind, is that our ears / brain are only sensitive to peaks and not to dips. The brain fills the dips automatically so we dont actually notice them.

Secondly, considering the room size, you might need a robust 3 channel power amp. Yes, even for the center. I cant think of any AVR that can fill a 3000 Cu.ft space on its own, without going into thermal protection. Glad that no damage has been done already, and the protection circuitry did its job as intended. Thank your stars and please get some power amps :)

Edit : Those monitor audio's are 90db sensitive but at 6 ohms, and not 8 ohms. So they will need more power than the manufacturer's benign recommendation of 40 watts.
