If people want to listen to music like this (wonder why would anyone want to listen to such music in the 1st place :indifferent14:) :

Mainstream 2011 Dance mix DJ Blu (turntables) - YouTube

Why can't such music simply be recorded in studio? Why is a DJ turntable required for this? Is this a lifestyle? I don't know much about DJ-ing. So what is the purpose of DJ-ing? Just to perform these stunts? I mean..look at how the guy in the video boldly puts his entire palm on the grooves :annoyed: To me this simply seems silly. So what's the big deal with these DJ turntables? Some enlightenment would be nice :)

Why can't such music simply be recorded in studio?

To differentiate between a good DJ & an awful DJ:D

If the music it recorded in the studio pre-mixed, the DJ creativity will not come into picture. Also, good DJs can catch the mood of the crowd and mix the music live in a way that is more enjoyable for that particular crowd.

Now, to survive all the stunts that DJs pull over the tts, the turntables must be robust in build. They should be heavily damped so that the bass thumping speakers do not result in feedback through the turntable. The platter should gain the proper speed as quickly as possible (by high torque) so that the music does not sound scary. The stylus should not skip in those demanding conditions and the DJ should be able to 'scratch' with that stylus/ cartridge. Also, features like pitch control, pilot lamp etc help them specifically.

That is why they need a DJ turntable.:)
(Cannot wait for a 1200 now!:D)

So you're saying that people don't want to listen to such music at home? They only want to go to a concert and watch a guy do this on stage? :indifferent14: Okay I get it somewhat..But how can they manhandle the records like that. Wonder how long those records would last :p Or are they some special type of records that cannot be damaged?

You're getting a 1200? When? From where?!

Records used by Djs don't last much and even one should keep away while buying turntables, if they are coming from DJs. That is the reason why most 1200 sales are doubted as they might be coming from DJs who abused them no end.

Only if some kind soul (or even a DJ for that matter) decides to donate one to me:D

honestly, for DJs the turntable is a musical instrument, and not for playing hi-fi music. Its all about pitch, rhythm and timing. Also the TT should be robust enough to take extreme abuse. Should be dampened enough to avoid as much feedback as possible and must track in extreme conditions without skipping, hopping or jumping. All these criteria are definitely not per-requisites for hi-fi listening. DJs need robust equipment, hi-fi enthusiasts require turntables with class, quality and finesse.

People say turntable and alcohol has some relation. People enjoy music with alcohol. If later is more then they just enjoy and forget what they were listening. :D
For DJ all factors combined together, TT needs to be safe after all abuse - another alcohol effect. So did I tell there was music playing? ;)
