Does Boston acoustics soundware XS 2.1 requires amp or AVR??

This review doesnot mention that it needs an amp
I am so confused. I want to buy a good 2.0 or 2.1 Active speakers for my desktop. I have ASUS Xonar to be used. Any suggestions?
Klipsch Pro Media is not available right now. Swans M50 over my budget.

One of my friends bought this confusing it with the Boston Acoustics SoundWare XS Digital Cinema model. Remember, there are 2 models:

1. Boston Acoustics SoundWare XS 2.1
2. Boston Acoustics SoundWare XS Digital Cinema

The first one is an active subwoofer but passive satellites. Meaning, you need an amp. It has speaker level subwoofer connections, this can be confusing to people when they see the pictures thinking the subwoofer is powering the satellites..

The second one is fully active. You do not need an amp.

Needless to say, my friend had to pick up a sonodyne amp.
