DVD Player confused big time..!

Sadly my AVR doesnt have an input port for co-axial or optical audio..,
i want to change my DVD player to a high end SONY model. that can upscale and output as HDMI.. but all such players in the market dont have 5.1ch discrete output ports for audio.. and rather only co-axial etc..

What DO i DO..???

Can you please post some details of your AVR and speakers? I am surprised to know that your AVR Does not have coax/optical inputs.
Secondly,what is your budget for dvd player and what exactly do you consider as high end?
Have you finalized sony as brand or are you open to other brands also? Asking so because I have seen LG And samsung models with 5.1 analogue out and which may be considered to be in same league as that of Sony.

I am open to other brands.., pl. suggest other LG and SAMSUNG models which have the upscaling capability and 5.1ch discrete outputs.. and yes does upscaling do real good.. or just a marketing gimmick.?

the op would really be able to give a more accurate reply but I am guessing his AVR may be a relatively older one.

I, for example, still have an analogue avr connected to my crt tv, which obviously does not have any digital inputs or outputs.

I am still perfectly satisfied with its quality but in the digital age I had to get a new avr just to take care of the hdmis and toss links etc etc..
