Edifier DA 5000 Pro 5.1 speakers

Sure, I can wait. And what do you think, these speaker that I have are good? They have inbuilt amp you said. And moreover, most probably I will connect them with PS3, if not then my PC - for that I will buy a Xonar DX as you suggested. In either of the case, do you think I will get surround sound effect from these speakers?

And can I connect headphones on these speaker?
Thanks.

Oh ! so you have the DA5000 instead. good. i had a really good fact-sheet on DA5000 vs DA5000 Pro, which was in some other language translated to english. i dont know where i saved it, and am now unable to search for it on google.

yes even this should be good, considering that the RMS output is almost equal to PRO version.

you will get surround effect only when you are viewing anything that has 5.1ch audio encoded in it. if not, then
you wont be able to hear surround sound. like for eg, you wont hear sound from your rear speakers while listening to music, because songs are recorded in 2-channel audio.
in movies, watch the DVD of 'behind enemy lines' which has good 5.1 sound. with the PS3, games would have 5.1 sound as it is.

although there's no 3.5mm jack in the subwoofer's back, you could connect your headphones with the help of a 'male RCA-to-3.5mm female jack' cable. but why do you want to do this ?
you should connect your headphone to the audio-out of your PS3/xonar DX.

Yes I do understand the difference between 2.1 ch & 5.1 ch audio. In fact I have quite a lot 5.1 ch audio movies. The thing is getting audio from rear speaker isn't same as getting surround sound effect. I guess I will only get it with a decoder via PS3. Anyway, thanks a lot.

alright. if using with PC, best would be to use with a sound card. you may also have to play with 'positioning yourself' quite a lot to get it right initially (i spent almost a night earlier trying to achieve this, watching a movie on the PS3. there was one particular spot in between the speakers where it seemed that all the audio from various channels mixed to surround the user in a sort of 'aural sphere'. that actually felt mesmerizing. but its quite tough to recreate or permanently 'fix' that spot for the user. i dont know if am explaining it properly. and this was more when my speakers were up near the ceiling, so reflection from the walls might also have played some part. basically, get the speakers at about your ear-level, set-up to position yourself near-about the center or a bit farther from the front channels, play a good movie/game through a good decoder, and i think you're set ;)).

Exactly, I have been playing with positions of speakers myself. problem is my room is a bit small for too many experiments. But I did manage to position them to get surround sound feel:yahoo:. Moreover, the position of sub-woofer is also important.
Thanks for your valuable suggestions. Been great help from you.:)

i just bought the da5000pro. the reason i went for this is because there is NO other product at around this price that even makes sense. anything below this is too weak for me and the next step was the edifier s530 which is for INR 20k (absolutely ridiculous price for computer speakers).

my feel is that its kinda underpowered. i am running it 5.1 on my Mothersboards built-in audio (realtek).

this system has tweeters on the satellites and cranking up the treble gives a lot of clarity to the sound. thats a plus. but having said that, the Sub is kinda weak and distorts like crazy even if we go anywhere close to 80% volume. this is kinda disappointing. but all round the bass does have its impact. in other words, if you really push the volume and adjust the bass level to reduce distortion, you neighbours will complain.

them comes the center channel, this is the Achilles heel of this product. dialogue quality during movies us HORRIBLE in this product. infact, i prefer my old creative t6200 center to this. the center channel is huge in size with 2 mids and one tweeter(but is still rated at a low 12wrms). but the sound is puny and weak. i dont blame the speakers as much as i blame the amp. i know this, because i tried my old T6200 center (rated 14w) with the DA5000pro and it sounded quite bad too.

all in all, id say its a good product. sounds great and the satellites with their tweeters sound great. bass can sound good provided you keep tuning it to what is currently playing.

and the only -ve feedback i have is the center channel, even the speaker is huge, it just isnt as good as a center in a INR 10k system is supposed to be.

am sure that with a good sound card, your experience with the sound output should improve. i've positioned the centre speaker farther away, or should i say, above my front speakers, & barring a few movies, it didn't pose any problem. but yes, the situation certainly improves a bit with the software of the sound card.
given my room-size, i rarely crank the volume upwards of 50 anytime, which then becomes overkill. till that level, the sub is a very strong part in the system, giving a clean & impactful output (to the point of subtly rattling window-panes in my room). also, i feel after a few weeks, the sound from your system will improve. thats what i noticed (due to burn-in), & is certainly felt esp. while playing music.
i mostly use this system for gaming more than movies, & at its price, this is one hell of a 5.1 system for gaming atleast!

Hi. Thanks for the feedback. Hopefully mine will also improve in time. In the last few days I have noticed some improvements but bass is still an issue. And iam planning proper speaker placement with the center above the monitor.. lets see what happen.

Cheers

I've recently bought the ASUS Xonar DX, will it be good if i go for a dedicated AV on top the Xonar and these speakers? How about the Edifier C6 (HCS5640). This one is with a AV. Thanks much.:)
the DA5000 Pro is highly recommended for your budget PROVIDED you pair it with an amp. for that matter, any HT speaker system would only perform, say may be half of its capacity without an amp. am using the DA5000 Pro with my PC having xonar DX (which has a very good amp), and the difference in speaker output and SQ with the sound card and without the sound card is striking.

there are two more options that you could look for in case you dont get the edifier. this is from a new company named 'F&D' (or 'fenda'). but their products are really good. those two options are :

1. F5090 5.1 home theatre speaker | 5.1 Speaker System - i have this system hooked up to my TV, and its a beast ! am also going to get an amp very soon to pair it to. really a great system for movies and gaming, but NOT for music.

2. Buy F&D F-6000 Speakers at Best Price in India - Also find Specifications, Photos, Features & Reviews - this also is a good system. i have auditioned it, and performs well enough without an amp too. good for music playback too !

these two could be auditioned at 'MORE' shopping mall. prices may have increased by may be 1k, but would be still under 10k. you could read more about the 2nd set here :

F&D F6000 home theater - Digit Technology Discussion Forum

but if you are more interested in edifier DA5000 Pro, and have confirmed the stock-availability (check may be at MD Computers), then i would seriously recommend you get an amp if you dont have (or may be you could connect it to your AVR; sorry, not knowledgeable in this regard). the DA5000 Pro is an all-rounder system, and you would enjoy music too on this if you are not an audiophile ;)

let us know if you have any more doubts....

The DX is a good sound card and Edifier S730 is one helluva speaker set, however it doesnot support DDL (Dolby Digital Live) which the DX has.
Same question,
I also owned DA5000Pro but not happy with Xonar DX either. Please let me know how to mod it at its best...

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
