EEI Classic 700 MM - Surprises !

EEI that manufactred the carts was a UK based company that had their plant at Kolkatta, India. They were OEM suppliers to many forign brands. The Australian company shares the initials, but is not the the same company. As the AK post says, they sourced it from somewhere. That source was the UK/India based EEI. The complete name of this company was something like Electronic and Electrical Industries. Even the Garrard ceramic cartridges were made by EEI of UK. If you look at the TOTL ceramic cartridge EEI cs2040 you shall notice that it is identical to Garrard ks40. Another fm has much more information about this and I am thankful to him for sharing it with me.

Regards,

Can you upload a close picture of stylus alone (Not full cartridge). It looks Shure M75 is the most suited one than the M55.

Will get back with a close up of the stylus soon..

That is a little difficult as last I used these was three years ago and the system was not identical to both these carts.

The EEI is a low output mm hence it requires a preamp with good gain and very low noise floor. It is neutral sounding compared to the Shure that is warmer. One can use these attributes to balance the system, if the pre/power amp is also on the warm side, try the EEI to avoid an overly warm or mushy sound signature. So many variables, from the tt mat to curtains on your windows play a part in the sound of your system. You have to experiment and decide what you like. Half the fun of analog music is in these games:)

Hi FMs

I'm about to order Shure M75 stylus for my EEI Classic 700 cart.

Will any FM be able to confirm that it's compatible ?

thanks !!

the surprises continue - i got an EEI classic 700 from shafic, and it seems to be one of those universal recipient cart bodies - it fit M75, M70 M44-7 styluses as well as an excel es70 stylus.

The latter means you can fit a 614-DQ, the cheapest shibata stylus available (30USD for a shibata stylus!)

Have yet to see how they sound, but this looks interesting
