Favourite speakers under INR 20k

Hai Cooltoad,

I have auditioned both the Wharfedales 9.2 and 10.1. The 9.2 sounds better. In 10.1 the treble is good but does not sound well in the Bass front, it is very loose and boomy. Comparatively the 9.2 is better.

Thanks,

N.Murali

Thanks Murali, 9.2 is my safe bet now.(unless i want to gamble with 10.1) Also read your nice little review and the audition at Sri's house.Thoroughly appreciate all your valuable inputs.

Hai Cooltoad,

Pl. audition both the 9.2 & 10.1 before you decide, because your ears may not accept my opinion or your taste may differ from mine, nevertheless the WH 9.2 is certainly a good VFM.

Hi folks,

Unfortunately Wharfdale 9.2 is not available for demo right now, so will have to wait for a week or so.

Anybody owns epos M5 here? Will the SQ be superior compared to the wharfies Bookshelf range. And will Nad c320bee be able to drive the 4ohms epos M5 comfortably?.

Ok some crappy pictures of my setup (phone camera please excuse).

In addition to my Marantz CD63SE CD player, NAD C320BEE amplifier and Usher S520 speakers, you will meet my "Tansen" (Jackson OEM) guitar and Marshall 15W amp.

You cant go wrong with 9.2,I heard them with Yam amp & they sounded clean, sweat & Bass too was full.deep. I listened Eagles California.

Hi Psycotropic, Nice setup. Also keep us posted on how it sounds and about the cabling part once you're done with it. and you've placed the speakrs less than 3ft apart. Will that be optimal?

BTW, anyone heard epos M5 and pl let me know how it is compared to the wharfies BS series.

Nice pics. The photo at once reminded me of the saying "Home sweet home".

Ideally your speakers should be around 6ft apart .. not sure if you can manage that here. Maybe you should pick the wall mount stand available in Chennai one day and see?

Regards

hey gobble and cooltoad, the speakers are approx. 5 feet apart. I know ideally I should give it a bit more space apart, but as you can see it's a pretty tiny room and overall it's a pretty tiny flat, so don't have too many options in that regard. I won't have space to keep the speakers to the sides of the cabinet, without impeding access significantly. This placement was actually ideal for the Audioengines, which is probably why I got superior imaging from them, but it's still pretty good.

I bought lots of music yesterday A-ha, Blondie, Kraftwerk, Alan Parsons Project, Sikil Gurucharan and Anil Srinivasan, Joshua Bell, Saawariya....so spent many hours listening yesterday. It is sounding pretty good.....and maybe once i upgrade from lamp wire it will sound better (or not ;)). Yes cooltoad, will keep you posted on what I am going to do with regard to speaker wire. Once I pick up the suri-provided ICs from soundsgreat, I will replace the jumper on the C320BEE with that and see how it sounds.

psycho, beautiful setup.very cosy.of course the whole aspect of ideal placement needs the ideal surroundings yes?heh.i still havent been able to post pictures of my setup as,honestly, havent managed to get any decent angles to do justice to the setup(my bedroom,heh,..very small :p) and still havent got the placement etiquette down(rack, etc).BTW the ushers look bellissima!!!am sure once ur cabling issues are sorted they will shine only more!!!oh,and yes,do change the jumper cabling, heard it makes a helluva difference.here's to long hours of audio heaven, cheers

hey man,

as you can see from my pictures, mine is a tiny bedroom, and it's not like i had much space to work with, plus a crappy phone camera......so just post some pictures.....let's see them at least!

he he he yes, the Ushers do look bellissima, and sound much more bellissima than they look.

Neatly done Psycho the photo from the side was good.

Seeing the pics I guess you could benefit a lot from having a speaker stand in future.

Waiting for your impressions with better speakers wires.

If somebody's coming over for an audition, request him to bring his spikes and stick-on then compare. a foam/rubber pad below the granite might also prevent micro vibrations - with so much surface area in contact with the table surface ... just something you might want to experiment with over time.

Regards

Good idea there, let me try maybe some blu-tak between the granite and the cabinet surface, and blu-tak between the speakers and the granite. i wanted to actually get 1' square MDF boards to place between the granite and the table, and i am also considering getting hold of a couple of telephone directories to keep the speakers on. The audioengines showed marked improvement when placed on a couple of heavy books.

he he he, exactly the same one spiro....i ended up going the next weekend and picking it up. But the good thing was, because I missed the bus, I decided I needed to make that weekend count, so I joined a gym, and I've been going regularly to the gym since then :) So net-net I am really grateful I missed that bus.

Hi psychotropic ,

Is that the same NAD which has a story,ie. missing the bus to Hyderabad?
