Ok so I bought a panasonic s60 50in plasma from a friend of mine, I really like the tv but the black levels have me a little concerned. The tv has around 3200 hours on it. So my question is how dark are the blacks suppose to be? With some bias lighting behind my tv I can tell that the blacks are a little greyish, are they suppose to match the bezel? Don't know if I am expecting too much. My second question is how loud is the buzzing noise suppose to be with this model?. I apologize if I posted my questions in the wrong section this is my first time, if anyone has any info that would help me out I would appreciate it, thank you. :)

Did you calibrate your TV well ? What settings are you using ? Black on plasma is really black and not greyish like LED.

Noise depends on the settings you're using. More light, more buzz. Less light, less buzz. But I never experienced any buzz on my 42" plasma from a distance of 6ft. I used low settings though since I used it as PC monitor.

the blacks of the s60 are very deep and are at par with the st60 in a completely dark room.....but i should say that plasmas perform very well in a moderately lit room or a dark room...s60 is reflective and that's why you could have noticed greyish blacks...plus there are sometimes brightness fluctuations on this tv...that could be another reason why you noticed greyish blacks.....s60 is a very good tv with fantastic clarity(hd) with deep blacks and well saturated colours(very natural and not oversaturated)...if you could
avoid bright lights behind this tv it would be great....there is no buzzing on the s60...apply the settings below for the best picture on the s60....keep refresh rate at 100hz

Are those cnet settings better than the settings used by fairchild?

At the moment I am using the settings used by Fairchild, I will try using the one from cnet to see if they are better.

ya they are much better than fairchild settings......cnet settings of gamma 2.2
refresh rate of 60hz (100hz in uk and asian models) and blue saturation of 30 gives you a brighter picture which is really required for watching sports...

Thanks a lot I tried both settings and I agree that the cnet settings look better. I have one more question, would the blue saturation of 30 affect image retention? Since it makes the picture brighter. The reason I ask is because I play video games. Thank you for your help.

blue saturation of 30 does not create image retention....always keep the pixel orbitor ON/AUTO and if you notice slight image retention switch ON the scrolling bar
