Hi,

For those interested, the much awaited Fosi Audio V3 mono has been launched in India via Amazon. However the sales is through "shoptheworld.in". I wasnt sure of two things:
> if the units being offered in India are the ones with the polarity inversion issue
> if its supported by official warranty

I called up the number provided for shoptheworld. The person informed that the units sold on Amazon are covered by warranty but had no technical information on phase inversion issue.

I then wrote to Fosi Audi support and received the following answers:

Hence if you are buying via Amazon please note that you will receive the older phase inverted units. This will impact in a multi channel setup and apparently not a stereo set-up but sharing this in case you are buying on Amazon.

I had requested Fosi for an update on the Amazon India stock of the v3 mono. Apparently the defective stock has been completely sold and now the fresh stock with corrected phase is being sold. Just informing in case you have been waiting.

Thanks Amarendra for this update.

I got the Fosi V3 monos with the corrected speaker connection. The first big hurdle to implement was volume control. The mono blocks are pure power amplifiers. No volume control. So you require either a DAC with hardware volume control or a preamplifier with volume control but with Balanced Inputs. None of my Preamps have Balanced inputs. So I had to use the ALSA volume control on the DAC to lower the volume. But most dacs don't implement volume control correctly for DSD format. Some noise is there if the volume is not 100%. So ultimately I had to implement a volume control on the balanced output by using this device called vault volume control. It has two balanced inputs and 2 balanced outputs. It is actually for connecting two instruments (like guitar, etc) to your recording setup.

Now the only issue is my apple music setup which runs on a different DAC. Hence currently I have to remove the XLR plugs and connect the XLR plug from the Apple music setup when I want to hear apple music. So placed an order for this XLR switcher which will arrive end of Dec.

Can't you use xlr to rca adapter or xlr to rca cables. I am using those with my vtv hypex amp. which is balanced to my acoustic portrait swara pre. which has rca. No issues and was recommended by vtv themselves and even hypex recommends this afaik, for equipment that doesn't have xlr.
Cheers,
Sid

Yes, that can be used if there is no option. Using XLR throughout gives me an advantage of having my headphone rig at quite a distance from the V3 mono blocks. In fact my headphone amp and output to subwoofer is connected using Balanced to RCA adaptor.

The only reason I got the V3 mono blocks is because it has both balanced and RCA inputs and my ultimate configuration will be that each mono block will be connected to the speaker with extremely short speaker cable (< 10 cm) and I will be running long XLR cable from the source to the V3 mono blocks and hence the need to control the volume at the balanced output itself.

Hello Sir :)

By any chance did you check the power consumption of each V3 mono block please. I would need a minimum of 3 pairs for the active speakers I plan on building. Hence curious :)

The V3 mono blocks is always warm to touch. It consumes 18 watts when idle. When you play, it does get hot.

Just a suggession. The v3 mono blocks don't have volume control. So if you plan to control volume externally fine.

The A7 mono is supposed to be better. It has volume control too. The only issue is that it is not available on amazon.in

I wont be needing volume control, as it will be done in digital prior hitting the Dac. And dac will be connected directly to the V3 mono via xlr. And V3 mono connected directly to driver with bare wire. Want to keep it as minimal as possible, no binding posts or connectors either :)

That is exactly what I'm planning. Connect the V3 directly to the speaker using a thick solid copper wire and run long xlr cables from a xlr output selector switch, which is probably now sailing in some ship towards India.

Haha...exactly how I plan on using them too sir :)

Long Xlr cables and as short speaker driver cables as possible. Actually the amps might be placed inside the speakers too, with external ventilation fans for a very compact foot print.

Then we can name it as semi active speakers!!!
Haha...mine will be fully active - 100%. Not sure if I will like the sound, coming from tube amps to chip based class-D amps. But can try for the very resonable price and hear for myself. The effeciency and low impedence are what are drawing me in. Besides, the modularity of replacing one amp should something go wrong. Will definitely try for myself and see....but I really liked what I heard on my headphones on youtube demo's.
