Hi Guys,

Recently bought a Google Nexus 7 tab.Got it to browse, watch movies and youtube videos and mainly to read ebooks on the Kindle software. It runs on
Quad-core Tegra 3 processor and a a twelve-core 416 MHz Nvidia GeForce ULP graphics processing unit (GPU) and 1 GB ram.It has got a resolution of 1280 x 800 HD screen.

I am very happy with video quality of this device.Even DVD quality looks
great and Youtube HD videos look stunning and there are no lags.Browsing is very fast and it handles multi tasking very smoothly. What i am most happy is that Kindle works seamlessly and the text looks razor sharp with no pixellations and its very easy on the eyes.Today i came to know i can download even torrents direct on to the device. wifi is very fast and its a pleasure to browse the net. Music thro headset is not too loud and good for occasional hearing.

cheers,
sri

Welcome to the Club Bro, I am another satisfied owner of Nexus 7..... :)

Have a query: is the nexus tab better than the galaxy tab? AM WANT ING TO GO FOR ONE, BUT TORN BETWEEN THE TWO, ALSO, WAITING FOR THE NEXUS 10 TO LAUNCH.

Capabilitywise, other than the fact that it lacks a GSM Radio, the Nexus 7 is clearly superior to the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2.0 7". The Nexus 7 has a far better screen, better screen resolution and a far better processor. But it does not have a rear facing camera (which the Galaxy Tab does). The Nexus 7 (8GB) is available for about 15-16K in India, while the Galaxy Tab 2 (16GB) is available for about 19K.

The current 8GB Nexus 7 has been discontinued, and the 16GB Nexus 7 is now available for the same price as the 8GB Nexus 7.

There is a Nexus 7 being launched with a GSM radio. It should be available in late November on Google Play (not in India, of course). Asus will hopefully launch it officially in India soon. If they do, I'll be selling my Galaxy Tab 2 and picking up one.

Specs wise, I think the new HD kindle fire is probably slightly ahead of the Nexus 7 but then one does not get the pure Google experience on the Kindle.

Hi Guys,

The Nexus 7 is a great gadget no doubt.Kindle Fire seems to come with lots of amazon ads which may be an irritant.Picture quality of the Nexus 7 is excellent to say the least. There is an app called Movies HD Peliculas. Lots of movies are added every day and if u dont mind watching movies on a tab this is a great app.
Reading ebooks is a pleasure too and i use an app called FBReader.I am happy i bought this even before the launch in India though with a premium. Some may find the lack of SD slot and 3G as a deal breaker. But for those who use this primarily at home, its a boon. For those who are looking to buy a first 7 inch tab i recommend this little beauty from Asus strongly.

cheers,
sri

In the quest for an decent Android tab (not convinced about the IOS or the Windows ecosystems) I've narrowed down on the Nexus.

Can anyone clarify the following:

1. Does the 16GB WiFi only model have a GPS receiver? Meaning I can use it for navigation along with being able to view maps.

2. Can the Wifi + 3G model sold in the US be used with Indian operators? They specifically mention unlocked.

3. What is the fastest way of ordering one here in India? Are most sellers importing on order?

Appreciate an early response.

Thanks!

Check for a magnetic compass sensor as well. A compass display can often get you unlost much quicker than waiting for maps to load and GPS position to be found. It can be enough just to know which direction is the one you want.

I have a 8 GB WiFi only model and yes, it does include GPS and offline maps. So you can use it for navigation when on the move.
Fastest and cheapest way would be to request a friend returning form the US of A to pick it up :)
I would prefer the 16 GB WiFi + 3G model anyday.

My thoughts too RGN. But then, I guess the 3G option is available only with the 32 GB configuration.

I figured out that tradus.com is offering a 16 GB WiFi only at 16720 and Indiatimes at few 100 bucks less. Don't know if they are as reliable as Flipkart or Infibeam, but I get a 32 GB with 3G for almost the same price ($299), albeit a month later.

Tough choice as I have quite a bit of travel coming up in December and need the gadget before I start :-|

I would say wait for a month and go for the 3G one, it would be a much more useful with web on the go, rather than a home use only tablet without 3G.
Buy it on the first day of travel, or better order one earlier so that it arrives/will have arrived by the time you land up in USA, then you will not miss it during your travels :)
And 32 GB storage also makes a difference, since there is no micro SD expansion slot.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
