Hi guys,

It has been 7 months now since i am using a 50" plasma. I don't know for what reasons but i am bored to death since this tv has come to my place. This was not the case when i was watching a crt tv. I think it has a lot to do with the content and its quality. Only a few HD channels with little or no interesting content. Watching the same movies again, by this i mean i have already watched the movie in another or bd format. I need to get out of this situation seriously. Maybe i am demanding more from the tv. So what r the options?

One option i can think is to get a PS3. Another option is to get a 21:9 tv to eliminate the black bars or Get a 65 inch tv. Will this help.

Cheers
Sid.

You know what? ONE of the reasons I dont have a TV is that since more than 5 years I am observing PQ in showrooms on flat panel and not at all inspired by it!! I think you have a finger on something there.

If only the Philips 29" PT8836 CRT were still available.. then the buying decision would have been made in a snap now that I am considering a TV for occasional movie and documentary viewing.

A decent CRT is much superior to the flat panels costing 5 times more, for SD content.

cheers

I suggest you take subscriptions of home delivery agencies that bring DVDs to your doorsteps . there are quite a few of that kind to India.

Even if you watch a new movie every day all your life, you will never be able to complete all the movies available in the market. Then there are the TV shows, documentaries, etc.

Ultimately it is a question of what you are interested in. If a TV bores you, you should look at some other way of entertaining yourself - music, going out, playing, swimming, partying..... there are so many options.

In that case you should have invested in something else apart from a TV if you are bored at watching. Otherwise get accquainted with cartoons so that you can also enjoy it :)

that is so true. I finally fell for a flat screen - c6500 from samsung and I am quite happy.

Hey guys thanks for the replies. Answer to a few queries here. Haisaikat, i have a unlimited Bigflix connection where i can exchange movies every 2 hrs but the content is DVD. So the picture is nothing compared to BD. Hey hemant, Kai visshesh? having children, shall have to wait atleast for 9 months. VenKat i own a media player and i watch cartoons and comedies over and over again. some of them are: R u being served, Mash, Allo Allo, Happy days, cartoons like flinstones, yogi bear, top cat etc but again all SD.

So now come to think of it, it is the picture quality of the program and the general programming itself which is making me bored. Maybe i hurried and got myself a plasma. But when i see the PQ of Disney movie UP or FIFA final it was money well spent. Maybe few more replies and i shall be certain that it is indeed the PQ and programming.

Thanks again

I would recommend that you try moviemart for BD content.

i'v been happy so far and once you build up a relationshop with them you will find they'll be really flexible - in terms of duration, number of movies you can borrow etc.

standard disclaimer - no financial relationship with movie mart other than as a customer

Hey kittu,

Will this help? If yes will the resolution be good compared to plasma?

Regards
Sid.

Best thing is get a big size CRT and restrict your plasma for all HD stuff. You will be happy again.
If you want the best PQ in crt watch for used 34 inch philips pixel plus 2 or Sony wega fine pitch tv. I am sure you will never look any other technology for couple of years.

and where are these available?

'you are bored' has nothing to do with 50" or 60" TV. its all about quest of entertainment and filling gaps inside yourself. Human tendency is to look for unlimited joy and entertainment in life. its all in the mind... TV is not the culprit... you can watch unlimited movied, music but can still remain unsatisfied.. you need to be clear.. what you want in life :)

Get hold of 'those' movies. It would pep you up ..... :licklips::ohyeah:
Unlimited supply from some members here ..... put in a request.

kapvin, is the quality of movies in moviemart good for BD content? And moreover do they give you original BDs or copied versions?

My experience has been quite the contrary. Since I got my 50" plasma, I have pretty much stopped watching movies in the theatre. The better HT experience shifts the cost-benefit equation away from the theatre - the pain of buying tickets, parking, security checks, lines at the popcorn counter starts to hurt.

In fact our overall time spent in front of the TV increased when the experience improved.

I guess you just need to get access to more HD content - get an HD set top box, start renting Blurays, and (if it's your thing) get some downloaded content. If you are still bored, the problem runs much deeper.
