Try adjusting your sitting position (closer/farther) according to the quality of a movie.
I sit in a revolving chair with wheels and move it to appropriate distance. I did some experiments and have arrived at optimal positions for BD, DVD, HD-DTH and SD. Sitting too close with lower quality formats results in disappointment as well as eye strain. I also move the chair horizontally depending on whether others are also watching - I sit at a corner if they are and at the center if they aren't.
Some more experiments to get the best out of your setup - tweak picture settings according to ambient light etc...
