Got bored with a 50" plasma. What to do?

Can we know the price paid of DVDO edge in INR?
I paid Rs 38000/- all including in January 2010.
1080i->1080p improvement is very feasible.
I watched Predator Blu Ray directly, its rip (From HTPC up scaled by DVDO) and found not much difference to my eyes. Then watched the same movie on Movies Now HD(Up scaled by DVDO), the picture looked to my eyes softer as compared with previous ones. The thing I could understand was, neither the BD player nor the HTPC+DVDO are match for Transmission grade equipments.
I have doubts about SD improvements.
The SUN HD set top box can output at 576p, 720p & 1080i via HDMI. I think it means, it upscale SD content to 1080i (its output has been set to). The signal then routed to DVDO for 1080i to 1080p processing. The picture looks better than without DVDO.
nothing can be done to recover the details lost due to compression.
I am not aware whether SD content is compressed (& to what?) during transmission, I was assuming they are transmitted at 576p and HD content at 1080i. I may be wrong also.
Is there any technology explanation for this improvement?
I request other forum members to help on this part.

Both SD and HD content is compressed. The compression artifacts are seen easily when a lot of elements of a screen change - in things like several people dancing in sync. SD content is compressed using older mpeg2 technology and is of lower quality so the compression artifacts are easier to spot compared to HD.

HD content is compressed using mpeg4, which has several ways of compression - redundant slices, data partitioning, CBAC entrypy coding etc...... This is a better technology so compression artifacts aren't seen so easily.

Better Content Is The Way To Go Forward

Hello Sid,

Well you have guessed it right, the bore factor could be because of the content etc. I strongly feel with such a huge plasma screen, it should be meant for watching only movies of higher quality via media player or a blue ray. For TV viewing, a smaller screen is much better, the very thought to see the number of advertisements or odd programmes on a big screen is no good. The black bar factor i think one would get used to it sooner then later. A 65 inch TV, is not going to help, unless you watch better content with no foreign matter.

Well to download 720/1080P in 8/12gb is no problem even if it takes time, there is nothing like planning on this, you can always have stocks of such movies so that you are not stuck when you need to watch them, i think it is not worth looking into the ratios of movies in terms of black bar. About trying to watch movies in a zoom way, i used to do this, but no more because it was truly advised by a member that one should watch movies the way it has been intended.

Before just few hours back went with a friend to big showroom to audition few LED for him. He was so thrilled by the HD demo discs they were playing so almost finalized lg le5000 model. May be this was his first time to see HD on big screen.

After switching to tata sky to check the cricket match score, I could quickly see his face turning somewhat sad and it got more of it after surfing more channels. finally he cancelled his purchase for the reason of watching sd channels 90% of his time.

just narrating the incident happened before some time.
