The 414 has a dual core processor and more RAM and is the latest version of the 4xx series. And yes it costs a little $$ more as well..

Raghav, DS212j is not far behind 413j I was initially using 212 only, before 413j.
If you feel storage is your major concern then opt for 4 bay, else performance wise 212j is good as well
as I mentioned I have used 212j as well before 413j. Believe me, dont be fooled by its low configuration, it performs perfectly. The only difference I remember was the CPU load which was always around half bar as compared to 413j where it is just few notches ......
software wise both have more or less the same features

Thanks Sam but the one which I listed looks like a new one which was not available earlier a low cost model which I am interested as the shipping to India via Amazon is coming to around 13k all included which I feel is VFM. I am going to do torrent downloading, storage of movies/music and no transcoding/processing. Just plain storage without any mirroring and all as I do not have any critical data which needs RAID 1 or whatever it might be.
I am also looking for the NAS solution and came across Synology .. At first i could not find a seller but after going through the this thread I have also decided to buy the NAS.. But I few doubts hopefully you guys could help me..
I am looking at solution that can be my storage/media server for files/music&video and also a download station.. Since i wont be keeping any critical files I don't think RAID is required.. Hence considering the 213j model.
@sam9s: your guide of setting up DS413j was very helpful, solved many of my queries and i am still reading
But few are still lingering,
1)Can I just install a single drive of 2TB first and later(say after few months) add 4TB on the second drive?
Just want to know if i can upgrade slowly to avoid the huge initial cost of the drive as I already have many drive but most of then are 500gb's and lesser.
2)Has anyone tried using the wifi for streaming, concentrating on music? is the quality any good ? if so, What device do you use on the receiver end towards the speakers?
3) is the RAM upgradeable by a user? If not, I see a lot of RAM module on amazon, what the deal with that?
4) The copy feature on 214 or 414 is for RAID right?

Yes you can add a drive at a later stage, unless you want to change the file system or raid configuration you can add HDD at a later stage.

I use wifi for streaming only if I am listening from my Mobile or TAB. The more serious stereo setup is connected from DS413j's USB audio out to USB DAC and then to amp.

No not on these models. The higher synology modules you can upgrage the RAM. The RAM modules on Amazon must be notebook RAM

That's for copying the contents of SD Card or a USB stick into a designated folder on the NAS. It helps in copying content off of a SD or USB faster, you just need to configure to which directory on NAS the contents need to be copied when "C" is pressed after inserting a SD or USB. Its a one time setup and every time you insert SD or USB, on a single press of the button, all the contents of the drive are copied in to the designated folder. Essentially making it easy to dump your drives quickly.

damm 413j does not have any such button or feature .......
. Looks like a decent feature ....

Looks like the feature is been limited to 2 bay NAS only. 212, 213, 214 serious has that.
