Hand carrying a turntable from overseas.

A turntable you can hand carry will be nothing more than a Denon DP-29F. Anything more than this requires a little more effort. So unless this is some serious piece of kit (Which will require some effort to hand carry), I don't think its a good idea.

If you can put in specifics of the turntable, some of us here could help.

Either technics 1500C Or 100C

I've hand carried a 28 kgs turn table from germany. But there is a method to this madness. I bought an acoustic signature challenger mk3 with a matching TA-1000 tone arm. My requirement was a high mass belt drive, that was dismantlable, without a fixed plinth. So that rules out all technics TT's.

Some models of Avid, Michell gyrodec, Nottingham analogue, Triangle, Acoustic signature, Acoustic solid, and Transrotor are fully dismantlable. So its easier to carry.

When I arrived in India, my suitcase was full of heavy peices of aluminium, but the customs guy could'nt figure out what it was. But he could make out that it was definitely something valuable. I tipped maybe 300 or 400 dollars and came away happy.

I have carried a different TT on every return flight I've had to India. One Sansui sr 222, one pioneer pl 100, one technics sl d2, one sony PS t2. Pretty easy keeping a TT in check in baggage. Just remove the platter and headshell and transport separately. Still a good chance of damage to the dust cover, happened to my twice with minor cracks
