Dear All,

I am a new member in the forum and this is my first post, greetings and hope all are doing good. 😊

Suggestion Required: As part of my interest towards floor standing speakers I purchased a pair of Q - Acoustics Concept 40. Hooked it to an old Sony Amplifier (MHC GNZ333D) the speakers are playing well. Mostly, I play original Audio CDs in a LG DVD player which is connected to the Sony MHC system. I checked in Internet and found that the Sony system is actually using a pair of Sanyo chips. With limited information that I could extract from Internet it appears it is a class AB amplifier and the MHC having its own CD player (though some mechanism issue) it should have a 16 bit basic DAC. I am confused about if there would be a remarkable difference in case I purchase an integrated amp or it will hardly matter to my ears.

Other suggestions reqd:

a) Which would be a better option? Marantz 7000N or Marantz Stereo 70s.
b) I prefer little bright sound signature (e.g. Bose) in that case, would Denon be a better choice over Marantz?

Stereo 70s serves well when you are going to hook your TV and other devices DIGITALLY (Coaxial / HDMI / Optical). If not then 7000N would be a good choice. Audition and decide.

Thanks Efernand1 for your response.

Any idea if a Marantz or Denon would sound remarkably better than Sony MHC? Yes, prefer to give an audition but not getting a combination of all three (Concept 40, stereo 70 and 7000) together. The primary reason is to listen only songs as my TV is already connected with a different home theatre system.

My advice if you are already used to the sound quality and spend around 2-5 hours daily then makes no sense to invest at this point in time. You will realise the difference once you hear higher end separate systems and when you do, then perhaps it makes sense to invest.

Marantz matches most speakers easily as its more musically inclined. I have used multiple brands over last 25 years and last 12 years has been with Marantz only.

the speakers are playing well.

I bet that you will notice a world of difference.

These sony seem to be old and seem to had been geared towards mass consumer sound. Lot of old desi listings for it so it seems that it must have not been a hi-fi product.

Those concept 40s deserve a lot better power 🥹

You should look up reviews to see what kind of power your speakers love

So if a bit higher power makes them sing, go for something more powerful than those marantz.

Check out rotel amps like a12, mkii
