Whilst looking for some info about B&W DM4 speakers, I came across this site and thought it was great that you guys managed to find some super tweeters for a guy in india with some DM4's.
When I was young, I was Hi-Fi mad, and bought some audio gear I still have today. The bits were:
A Thorens TD160 turntable with Shure cartridge can't quite remember the number, their second best offering I think. Hey I can play records again.
A Goodmans Module 80 reciever.
B and W DM4 speakers.. .
I've wired a a fairly rubbishy Sony cassette tape machine up for tape i/p.
I need an aerial. Years ago I altered the aerial input circuit to take a standard co-ax connector but I can hear some reception so that's probably ok. I used liberal quantitys of switch cleaner on the switches and volume pots, lots of hissy imbalance stuff has dissapeared.
The IPOD is now feeding the aux socket.
For years these bits have been split up around the house, but I bought a deep set of shelves that have finally allowed the bits to be teamed up again. So I've blown some dust off and it didn't sound too good.
Sadly the DM4's need a bit of refurbing: both super tweeters are not working, or my hearing is now worse than I thought One of the main drive units, the rubber surround was peeling away from the cone. A nuisance as this one was replaced by B and W about 12 years after I first got them, and it has failed since. I've glued it back together tonight with some success, but I can't imagine this is a long term fix.
Anyway, I'll ask my questions about the DM4's in a separate thread.
Cheers, Rissole.
