A good friend was using his Chord Mojo (1) and was enjoying it
It suddenly stopped working.
I suggested he remove the batteries and try using it with the charger directly. He did and it’s not working.
Any thoughts on what the issue could be?
Anyone who can help repair it?
Grateful for your suggestions.

Is the dac getting detected?

It is possible that the battery is completely dead and it's life is over and the battery management system is refusing to charge. If it is out of warranty, just ask him to open it up. Usually the battery will be connected to the main board using a small plug with wire going to the PCB. Just disconnect the small plug to the PCB and try the Mojo with the charger connected to the mojo. I'm not sure if the mojo also gets charged through the USB, in which case it should start working with the usb connected and the battery disconnected.

Thanks Manavendra,
He has disconnected the battery and tried running it with the charger directly as you have suggested. But it’s not working. I suspect it will require some expert attention. Is there someone in India who can help?

Oops. I just saw that you already mentioned that in the first post. Another possibility is the power button has gone faulty. These are mico switches. I have seen such switch going bad. It looks like your friend is capable of opening the unit because he was able to disconnect the battery. The switch will be soldered on some pcb and will have two points connecting to the switch on the PCB. He can use a multimeter continuity tester to check if the switch shows continuity when the power button is pressed. These micro switches are of standard sizes. If the switch proves to be faulty, he can buy the switch from amazon and ask any mobile repairer to replace the switch.

Thanks. I will ask him to try this and get back….

As far as i'm aware, the Mojo 1 only gets power from its battery and never directly through the charger, something that the Mojo 2 rectified by allowing it to be powered from the charger directly at all times.

In that case one has to check the output voltage written on the battery. I'm guessing this will be a Li-Ion battery. So the output will be either 3.7v or 7.4v (dual cell). Then one can use any other Li-Ion battery and use a diy hack to connect it to the existing connector from the current batter. I believe Chord will charge significantly if you send it to them. If one is DIY inclined one can save some money.

I suspect if the voltage of the charger was greater than that of battery, then the unit is damaged severely. Internet says 7.4 v battery. What’s voltage of charger? Usually devices have a tolerance of 10% so if V of charger was less then good else :(.

Suggest him to get a replacement battery.

The charger was 5V.
I will suggest a replacement battery to try
