Help for a Sansui Stylus SN 50 of TT FR D3

I am about to dive in the phono world.
I already bought some good records (95 for now).
I am eyeing a Sansui FR D3.
It does not have the stylus.
Stylus number is SN 50.

My request to all, is to tell me where and how can I get this stylus or a substitute one.

Friends please let me know if any of you has a working stylus suitable for ST30 cart (stylus number SN30) and is willing to sell.

use your existing head shell, the cart assembly with your existing head shell will be pretty straight forward like fixing a light bulb! hope this helps

I do not have the TT with me, I will take it from the owner first if he allows. SN30 surely is for ST30. But it does not have the stylus so I can't check. Your earlier link showed many alternatives too.
 
Another question:
Can I change a complete cartridge for another brand? Is there anything need to be cautious for. Weight should be one of the thing.
For example if I have a Sansui TT FR D3 with universal half inch head shell and instead of its ST30 cartridge I want to use say AT 95E. will it work. If it does, then what should be checked and taken care of.
My next question is how to check vertical traction force on the tip of a stylus?
 
yes you can. you will need to set the tracking force for the new cartridge using the weight on the other side of the tonearm, and adjust the anti skate accordingly. Search online for tutorials on youtube. If you are really worried, you can buy a digital scale on ebay which can read upto milligrams

You should then align the cartridge - important when using an elliptical stylus. If you use a cheaper cart with a conical stylus, alignment would not be so critical, but sound quality would be a bit less (but not hugely so)
 
The biggest gain one can achieve, IMHO, is to use a better cartridge. So you're thinking in the right direction.

Regarding which cartridge would suit the arm, please check:

1) Weight of current cartridge
2) Compliance of current cartridge

You will need a cartridge that weighs close to the original cartridge as a tonearm is nothing but two weights balanced at the two ends of a fulcrum, the two ends being grossly of unequal length. The counterweight can only balance upto so much weight.

Regarding compliance, again choose a cartridge that has a compliance that is close to the original, after first satisfying the above condition. The tonearm + cartridge has a natural resonance frequency which is a function of (among other things) the mass of the arm and the compliance of the cartridge. Changing the compliance can therefore push the resonant freq outside the desirable band of 8 to 12 Hz.

If you can find it, do download the manual for the turntable and read every single word of it. All your queries about correct method for balancing and alignment will be there in the manual. And yes, youtube videos will give you generic guidance.

Ordered AT95E cartridge and a universal headshell of AT from grabmore.

Fingers are crossed since then....
 
Another basic question:

Does a new headshell comes with two bolts and nuts or not?
If not, then which one should I buy from mrket. I assume they are generally available in a hardware shop.
Please help.
 
Audio Technica carts are very good sounding. I have experimented with a few different models over the past few years. In my opinion I have found them to be great value for money but on the in-expensive models, their stylii tend to wear a bit fast when compared to Shure. Also their tracking tends to require more precise tonearm calibration or inner groove distortion tends to appear as the stylus wears a bit. Perfornance wise, they are great value for money.
