Hello,

I am very new to the vinyl world. Having enjoyed listening to them at my friends' places and also helped them buy LPs, now I am thinking of owning one. Would appreciate any help you guys can give me.

One of my friends has a ProJect player and I loved it. Unfortunately, I am unable to find a retailer in Bangalore or online, who sells it. Another player I keep coming across is the Denon DP 29F. Now this is available through various channels and I am very tempted to pick it up. Lenco players turned up on some e-tailers as well.

Need your help in figuring out which direction to go. Are there other brands that I should take a look at?

Also, since I am new to this, is there a place where I can read up and understand the technology and the terminology used? Would really help me better understand your posts.

Thank you so much in advance!

Go through this article/post. Very informative for someone who's getting into turntables, records, etc.

DONT BUY A CROSLEY! EVER! Beginners Guide to HiFi - Turntables & Other Audio Equipment - Vinyl Collective

If you want to buy a Project (Debut Carbon..which is a far better TT than the plastic Denon DP 29F), then you can get them from Audio Planet in Koramangala.

A used vintage TT is a great option (lot of FMs here will be willing to help you in procuring a vintage TT). You can keep an eye on the Sale section here at HFV.

Audiodynamics in Koramangala also keeps some turntables including the Pro-ject one. (They keep Denon products too but the lower end one isn't recommended)

It might be a good idea to ask a friend ready to carry the weight from abroad. That may turn out cheaper as importers have lots of overheads. The Denon turntable is not recommended by anyone I have asked due to its plasticky nature. There is a school of thought that the new TTs under 400 USD should not be seen at all though I have seen some good reviews for Audio Technica turntables.

The best option would be to go for a lovingly kept used vintage turntable.
Some turn up on olx and the For Sale option in group is a very good option. Overall, be very careful. There are chances of being duped on olx etc. Better to see and buy. Some shops also sell these but Its condition should be cross-checked.

Keep looking and you'll find a good option soon.

All the best.

Thank you so much for the help! You guys are awesome.

The guide is really great and help me understand the basics of TT and its functions.

I will check out Audio Planet over the weekend and let you guys know if I pick something up. Right now, I am leaning towards Pro Ject. I realized that since I am new to this, I would be completely lost with vintage TTs.

Thanks again, guys!

A quick update: So, over the weekend, I visited Audio Planet and picked up a Project Debut Carbon. I also picked up a Cambridge phono preamp along with it.
I loved the TT's output in the store and also played it using my basic setup at home. Thank you so much guys!

Now, I need to pick up a set of good speakers and an amp. The gentleman at the store suggested Monitor Audio MR4 for Rs. 29,000, as I am very restricted by my budget at this time.

What do you guys think about it? I am very tempted to pick it up, but also wanted to see if I can get a something similar at a cheaper rate. I need to pick up an amp later on as well, so whatever money I can save here will go into it.

Welcome to the Vinyl World rovanv !!

If I may ask, how much did the TT and Phono Stage cost you individually ? Also, which Cambridge phono stage did you opt for ?

Hi everyone....

Although i m new to this world i was always interested in gramaphone for as long as i remember. Earlier i had the old manual gramaphone but had to give it away for some reason. Now i m a proud owner of a kind of vintage Philips HI-FI turntable. I have had LP records for a very long time and recently bought new ones too. I have old philips powerhouse speakers which still work and now awaiting to get the phono amplifiers.

Planning to go to chor bazar one of these days to buy some LPs which i dont need to as i have found one guy who has like thousands of records :)

This forum is very helpful..i m so glad to have found and joined.
