Hi, i am a newbie in hifivision. i am from durg (Chhattisgarh).
i am hunting for a new 42" plasma display. here in durg there are no Panasonic and Samsung authorized showrooms, so i went to a local TV dealer. He had all the latest models of Samsung and Panasonic plasmas in 42" size. i liked two models: Samsung PS43D450 and Panasonic P42X30D. price quoted was Rs 38,000 for Samsung & Rs 40,000 for Panasonic. he is offering a Airtel hd dth connection with both the models. Panasonic comes with 3 year warranty where as Samsung with only 1 year warranty. further he told me that if something goes wrong with the Panasonic, it will take minimum 1-2 months for the repair, since there is no Panasonic service centre in our state. nearest service centre is in Bhopal (M.P) where as there are two samsung service centres within 50 Kms. And one more thing i have experienced that video content is more smooth in Samsung as compared to Panasonic. So, please help me, which model i should go with..????

if you want a plasma then just go for panny. if you are not sure about plasma then i think samsung suits u better
but any plasma owner will vouch that panny is any day better in plasma then any other

thanks for your valuable opinions. one thing more i want to know, is there any panel break in problem in samsung plasmas, i have read somewhere in this forum...

Franklydont know much abt samsung plasmas cause after all I research I found panny to be the best. So just went ahead and bought one.

can u explain what u actually meant to say?...are u referring to break in period for plasmas?

no, actually i was referring about breaking of plasma panel from inner side of tv...someone has mentioned in this forum that within two months of usage his plasma screen is cracked from inside, and samsung refused to replace the panel because they say that the user has damaged the panel. how a user can damage a panel from inside. i was asking that is there any kind of problem in samsung plasmas.

^then what do u say...stay away from samsung plasmas?...u r in a better position to reply this...coz u urself owna samsung plasma!

actually i never owned a plasma, and you people have much more knowledge than me about plasma. these displays are such things that we cannot purchase it every year. so before investing money in any hdtv i need your valuable advice, whether i should go with panasonic or samsung plasmas..???

i didnot know about this crack issue when i bought the tv. just came to know last week from this forum

Only knew about the infamous buzz , which i checked before buying

samsung service is not the best,my first set had some minor issues and it took them a month and some very nasty and threatening emails to replace it
if you have the money go for 50v20 from panasonic, it is last years model so if you try you can get at cheaper prices plus best pq and get 3 year warranty

i saw in the forum someone buying it for 85k, if you can get it for that then it is the best option rightnow
since panasonic and lg hasnot launched the 2011 model yet there is not much option in plasma

i am looking for a 42" HD Ready plasma because my budget is upto 45K. have seen panasonic & samsung 2011 plasma models in a local tv showroom. dealer has quoted 40K & 38K respectively. i think investing 2K more will give me more peace of mind with 3 yr warranty. and one more thing, yesterday i went to the showroom to test new plasmas with the old one with same content. have checked panasonic 42x30d with its predecessor 42x20d, and believe me x30 was delievering much more black level than x20 with same SD & HD content.

@ my place,it is about just the opposite...samsung service is real great...that what i found from experience...having myself brought a samsung 40"lcd c530 & returnedd it with full repayment after 1.5 months of use(as a side gift got the dish truhd box to keep)...the tv was ok( No technical problem) & imho my issues/complaints against the tv were best subjective & generic(as i got to know latter)....common against all brands, mayb all lcd/lcd-leds.for one,i didnot have to use "threat" as a proposition to get the tv returned & full money back & all through the time, the local samsung response had been courteous or say cooperative. I have done in numerous rma's of different products in different brands & i certainly know how BAD that can be! On that ratings,i can certainly say samsung service at my place has been Great (mayb this is a single unique experience of mine) but that is the real truth in my case & does certainly adds to my confidence in searching for Samsung as the next tv/plasma tv.currently i'm focussed on sammy d550 plasma,as u might know from other threads..though the tv appears the most vfm big sized tv atm but part of its preference actually comes from my recent positive experience with samsung!.... Now that's all i can say at best from my side!!!

Also there r no similar options in other brands or other tv/tech that i assume would suit me...so most probably i'm left with samsung plasmas & d550 alone(at my place panny 50 v20 cost approx 90k'ish & morever it isn't a 3d tv too)..i find samsung tv as better value proposition!

there is no doubt that Samsung is the better value,my above comment is areply to your particular question before, may be u can take some home insurance with leftover money.just in case your luck with samsung changes
i am particularly disturbed by the user experience saying samsung not honouring warranty of internal crack.if that is the situation in usa, what will be their policy here

@Vishal: If you are looking for a Plasma, go with Panasonic period. If you are planning for a HD ready set then have a look at the newly launched Panasonic X30 series.

The X30 has lower power consumption figures compared to the 2010 models and also supports more formats through USB.

i didn't get it? ..what u meant to say?

btw, what's ur contention....will buying a samsung plasma only create problem & just break down?...u'r downright scaring me man from my cherished purchase!

i have now found from google that panny plamas also suffers from such similar breakins..it's perhaps a more a generic non brand specific problem whose probability is quite low vis-a vis the number of happy plasma owners!

i think its more of luck when products/tv break down & also i feel the tvs nowdays are not made like the 80's crt tv's which used to just go on & on, without much problem...even my 2000 purchased 29" flatline philips tv(of which i'm a very satisfied owner) had two major repair downtime, with spares being imported..yet,inspite of all the troubles, i'm a quite a satisfied owner of that tv,as it still runs great with splendid pq !!!

I dont know if me purchasing a samsung plasma will certainly create problems & break in for sure,..but that is still a hypothetical situation to consider which i have absolutely No clue!....whatever, sammy plasmas still offers the best value & features,(i know d550 has got issues too) & considering my very limited(stretched) budget,i think i have nothing better to avail...or NO new TV at all, that would suit me!
