Hi.. I want to upgrade my home theater. Right now, I have 5.1 multimedia speakers. I saw "home theater in a box" options online, but many people don’t recommend them. They say it's better to get a custom setup. I found some shops in Chennai that make their own amplifiers. They use speakers and subwoofers from brands like Dainty, Sweton, Zipp, Aiwa, and JBL. Has anyone here built a 5.1 setup with these custom amps? Are they good? How is the movie experience with these setups compared to brands like Yamaha, Onkyo, or Klipsch? My room is small (10 ft x 13 ft). Are these custom amps a good choice?

Hi,

Welcome to HFV.

I am sure you will find your experience here very enriching and enjoyable.

Make sure to visit the countless posts which is based on direct experience, technical knowledge and honest feedback.

If the post / response to you helps in any way, use the 'Like' button which is located at the right hand bottom of the post. This helps to build up positive reputation for the FM (Fellow Member).

Coming back to your post, there are many dealers in Chennai and would suggest to visit these dealers and audition systems which are within your budget (if you have a fixed / flexible amount). Audition with familiar music / movie content so you can draw a reference as to what sounds good. Make a list then find out which dealer offers the best deal with proper service & warranty. Accordingly, then make the purchase.

You are welcome to share with us the list of systems you like, we can help / suggest you ones which work well. Last decision will be yours as you are the end user.

Most of us have started on this journey almost 5-20 years back slowly upgrading and moving to better systems with time and ofcourse budget. There are good learnings as well as bad experiences in this journey but one will have to take the risk or be very conservative and get something basic.

All the best!

Thank you so much for your kind guidance. I will look through what is available in the market and test them as you advised. Will try to update my experience here.

JBL Professional C1PRO is the cheapest option for the Atmos Home theatre setup and if you are setting up in your hall which will have good aesthetics and sound. If you are putting in a dedicated room also it will work but you have options out there with slightly more budget on the chennai electronics market

Purchase the Audiolab 6000A Integrated Amplifier at a special offer price.
