@sandeepmohan, that's your opinion man, but there are lot of satisfied owners of Onkyo 3400 and Yamaha YHT-196 are around globe out there. If they prefer those HT systems and satisfied, then who are we to pass the judgment on those systems? That's why we ask them to audition the HTs first. Finally it is their satisfaction is what counts at the end.

If you can please suggest a suitable HT system within their budget and don't ask them to increase their budget, because they can't. That's why they all giving their budget first. Try to understand that.

@Sandeepmohan, at one point you are calling budget HTIB total crap and you are sounding like an audiophile who on the other side is looking for another HTIB (RS-32). Can you tell me what is the difference between 3400/3500 and RS-32 in terms of sound quality and how wide is the gap of quality. I am sure you can not. You call onkyo HTIB AVR a cheap one and say that it's worth is 12K. I am sure you are quoting this price in US$. then look for the price of Pioneer RS-32 in US$ only.

I am not defending any brand in this thread/forum and cursing other. We are here to just help the folks out there who seeks advice and most of them go by the FMs choice literally. Over this if someone is calling them crap but looking for similar model is quite contradictory.

If you have any better HTIB which gives perfect VM at 24-25K, then please do suggest. We'll always welcome your suggestion.

Thanks everyone for keeping this tread alive with all valuable input(s).I know this is going to help many others who are on the same boat. Also how about Denon 1312xp? I read some where in this forum that its good with both Music and Video.. Is that correct ..? I know the price is bit up ( approx 31 K ? )..Also if a person is going to expand approx 30-31 K then which one shoud he go.. Denon 1312xp or YHT-296 ?

Please post your suggestions based on audition done / real experiences / FM feedback...

@cool guy, you are correct. I have auditioned both the systems.

Both Denon 1312XP & Yamaha YHT-296 are good for both Music and Video.

Denon been priced at 31-33K.
Yamaha YHT-296 priced at 31-34K. But I think this model is not available now. There is a newer model YHT-298 has been released by Yamaha.

For comparison please read this thread....
http://www.hifivision.com/home-theater/30916-home-theater-around-yamaha-brand-2.html
http://www.hifivision.com/home-theater/24103-yamaha-yht-296-denon-dht-1312xp.html

and also this....
http://www.hifivision.com/home-theater/33797-denon1312xp-yamaha-yht-298-a.html

Yamaha YHT-298 is equally good and its a newer model. Its priced at 32-35K.
So, there is no big price difference between these three HTs.

I would advice you to audition also consider Pioneer VSK 522K.

Look here > HTP-522 |

It has the best features.
VSX-522-K_GA_B@120113@H1.png

Both Denon 1312XP & Yamaha-296 are good. Yamaha wins in having more features that Denon 1312. You'll always find yammys have better features than Denon. But you have to take the demo first. IMHO, yamaha is more musical and I did not like it's movie watching experience as the sound was quite bright but in case of denon1312XP it was fuller with good bass required for action movies. So for movies it was a perfect choice for me.

One more thing, I had auditioned Onkyo 3500 also. 1312 and 3500 sounded similar to me with movie but while playing music denon wins over onkyo. But if movies is your preference then can even go for 3500. only thing is it has passive sub and would be difficult for you to upgrade in future.

Yamaha 296 & 298 has almost got similar features only + point in 298 is it has 4k passthrough.

Thanks bpranay-

So it seems that below models would be a good choice ( based on individual's taste : Movies Vs Music )

Yamaha-296 : More feature then 1312 XP (Best for music )
Onkyo 3400/ 3500 : Best for Movies and less in Music
Denon 1312XP: Good in movies ( like Onkyo 3400/ 3500 ) but wins over Oknyo in Music.

So should I consider Denon 1312XP is the BEST among above all ( both Music and Movies ) ?

at one point you are calling budget HTIB total crap and you are sounding like an audiophile who on the other side is looking for another HTIB (RS-32)

Before I start, I am no audiophile and I never hinted anywhere to push the budget to unaffordable levels. Most HTIB's are built to a price. You get a decent receiver and so called full range speakers that are so cheap, they are probably no better than Rs. 1000 computer speaker system.

I am looking for a HTIB, something that has quality to it. I am looking for opinions on the Pioneer RS32. If its not good, I am not going to buy it. The Onkyo 3400/3500 is the worst HTIB I have come across. Heck, a cheap Philips HTIB had better sound quality than the 3400.

Can you tell me what is the difference between 3400/3500 and RS-32 in terms of sound quality and how wide is the gap of quality. I am sure you can not.

The Onkyo 3400/3500 are not what I would call value for money HTIB's. Like I mentioned in a previous post, the receiver is alright. It is the supplied speakers that are the culprit and Onkyo make the worst speakers ever. I have never heard a more disconnected system and the sub woofer unit at a point of the audition started dancing on the floor.

I am sure you are quoting this price in US$. then look for the price of Pioneer RS-32 in US$ only.

No I am not. That is the INR pricing for the receiver alone.

Neither am I. I do not recall marketing any brand here.

I am here for the same thing mate and I do have a recommendation. It costs twice over the Onkyo, Pioneer and Yamaha HTIB listed here and is totally worth it. I say wait a little longer, save up more dough, buy something that sounds really good and still won't cost the earth. It is a combination of the Yamaha RX-V373 and Space Audio SM-10X. One listen to this combination is enough to tell you how horrible the supplied speakers are from Onkyo.

Just for everyone's knowledge, the speaker system supplied with the Yamaha YHT-196, 296 and 298 are valued at Rs. 5000. Should be an easy guess to tell what sound one can expect from a sub sat system priced in this range.

If you have any better HTIB which gives perfect VM at 24-25K, then please do suggest..

I don't have anything to recommend in this price range and I still advise folk to stay away from cheap HTIB's.

I would advice you to audition also consider Pioneer VSK 522K.

I am seriously considering this receiver. The HTP-522 comes supplied with the VSX-522-K receiver and this receiver has a decent specification. I bet you can get it (receiver) for 22K and pair it with a nice book shelf, center channel and build the rest when funds permit.

Lemme , tell you what sir. It isn't cheap/rubbish or whatever you call it. We are not millionaires, we are just simple middle class people who want a system bang for the buck. We dont buy blu-ray's, we download MKV's.
You just cant call a system rubbish, just because you have more money power. Get your facts right and then compare the two. And very obvious, A seperate system will be better, but considering a person shifts his budget from 20k's to 30k's and then you call that system rubbish is unacceptable. Plus, you said the sub started dancing, that means you were not given the correct demo. 60% People here who recommend it over the others are not fools here.

We are not millionaires, we are just simple middle class people who want a system bang for the buck.

I am just like you. I want the ultimate bang for the buck and to me, all the HTIB systems listed in this poll are trash.

We dont buy blu-ray's, we download MKV's.

Trust me, you will be headed down this road very soon and if its not blu ray discs, at least the downloads are going to be blu ray quality and these wheezy ultra budget HTIB's are not going to bring out the best.

You just cant call a system rubbish, just because you have more money power.

I will call a system rubbish if it sounds rubbish. This is not about money power. It is to put your money in the right product.

Get your facts right and then compare the two.

I believe I already have.

And very obvious, A separate system will be better

It will and all I am saying is, it is better to put in some more money and buy a higher quality system. It does not cost too much more and if you find it difficult to fund in one go, do it in stages. You can start with a receiver and center channel. Build the rest of the system with higher quality components as and when funds permit. Trust me, the jump in quality has to be heard. It is only after this will you realize how companies are ripping you off with these ultra budget HTIB which in reality cost no more than 15K.

60% People here who recommend it over the others are not fools here.

Watch it dude, I never called anyone a fool.

I am simply amazed that nobody is with me on this idea. I rest my case.

@sandeepmohan, thanks for your suggestions & opinions.

I also request if you could give suggestions for a 25K budget, then it'll be quiet useful to all the new members.

Unfortunately I do not have anything to recommend at this price point. Not a full system. I say start with a good receiver that has a sub woofer pre out. Start building on this as and when funds permit. If you push your budget to 30K, you can get a two way center channel speaker system and get going with your movie watching.

Cool guy,
PLease go to Reliance digital , I just got a Denon 1312xp + LG bp 420 player ( with smart tv) for 32k. The LG blu ray 3D player was free and is always a useful thing with home theatre. The actual cost of the of player if Im not wrong is 11k so it works out well and you get a denon system as well . As ppl suggested here pls have demo before buying . I had a very good demo of Denon 1312 xp in Reliance digital with a proper setup.
