I will be moving to my own apartment in another 1 month. I am doing the false ceiling right now and need your expert opinion where to place the back side surround speakers and subwoofer. Though I haven't decided the HT model, I need to decide the speaker position to do the speaker wiring through the false ceiling.

I tentatively marked the position in the attached image. Can you guys please comment is the right position or need changes?

Hi,
Congrats on your new apartment and nice to see that you are planning HT setup at the interior stage. Many won't care until they get posession and then running around for electical changes, speaker cable points.. so on..

Please see below my suggestion for interior plan, me too getting a nearly similar living room; so I'm planning in this way. You will also get more open space in living/dining.

You have 11ft width, which is sufficient for TVs upto 46inch (for SD TV channels); you can go upto 55" TV if you are planning for atleast 720p HD / above...
You should wall mount your TV for maximum space.
Cheers!

Thank you both , I already bought the TV - LG 47LB5610. Seeing your suggestion, I have 3 question - (1) is it necessary to put Subwoofer in the front, is it okay if it near to the sofa or even in the backside (2) I thought surround should be behind the person, but as per your suggestion, it is in the same line of the person. Which is the ideal position ? (3) Is it better to do the cabling before buying the HT or just leave the pipes to do the wiring later - I asked this because wires also comes with some HTiB models like YHT-196 though I am not sure which model I will be going with....

Subwoofer normally can be placed at any position. The placement near TV would save long cabling for both power and audio towards sub. Doing cabling earlier would be better if u can get good quality speaker wires but do put sufficient wire outside in TV side since the receiver may get shifted in final rearrangement.

My suggestion ,please make provisons for 7.1 which u can upgrade later ,may the surround back can be put nearby ur dining space ,the sub woofer can be placed on the right corner. It will be better if u plan ur sofa to little back ,so that it will give u good surround.

Now when such a discussion is already going on at this thread, thought to present my case.

Please find attached my proposed AV set up. The descriptions are self-explanatory.

I need suggestions on Speakers placement, Subwoofer placement and which way speaker cables for Surround Left (SL) should come? I am asking this because if cabling is done separately for SL & SR additional piping shall have to be done either side which may compromise on the looks of the aesthetics. As of now, I have done piping myself and the cables run behind the sofa on the walls. This way SL has consumed around 7-8 feet additional cables as compared to when cabling was done separately for SL & SR. Will it compromise on sound quality? I am using 14AWG Monoprice speaker cables for SL & SR. Please suggest the best possible ways for AV set up under present Apartment Living Room constraints.

I was planning to do the wiring with 16 gauge cables. Can you please let me know whether it is sufficient for speaker as well as subwoofer ? Or subwoofer need different cables?
