Dear all home theatre lovers, the new ONKYO 3500, the successor to the highly acclaimed 3400 has been launched in US. Hope very soon it will be made available in India...

As per the website, the physical differences from 3400 are as below -

1. - One front USB port included to connect iPod/iPhone to play MP3, AAC files and MP3, WMA, AAC, and FLAC audio files can be played attaching USB drive(i.e - Pen drives etc.). I think existing Universal Port will be removed.

2. The WRAT ((Wide Range Amplifier Technology) sound technology has been re-introduced , (Thanks for the Info. spirovious) which as per Onkyo reduce noises across the high and low end frequencies and produce beautiful sound. Now we can wait to see how it actually differs in terms of sound output from its predecessor 3400.

3. One minor change is that, the size/height of front speakers have been reduced to match with the size of rear speakers. Now, not sure whether other people will really like it or not.

All other looks and build has remain unchanged.

WRAT (Wide Range Amplifier Technology) is old technology which my OLD AVR has.It must have reintroduced.

Yeah... lets rob a bank... or better still rob all the politicians. I will only take 1 Crore (for my "humble" audio and HT setup) and distribute the rest to my HFV brothers.

I suggest , why not be a politician:D.
or become an adviser to the PM - suggesting him remove all the "protection" that the gov is giving the "local" manufacturers by inducing all sort of :mad:Taxes:mad: and :mad:duties!

Well why are you using $250 as the base price?
This is the selling price and includes the profit and transportation from china to US.

In fact you should not add 50$ for transportation as it will be cheaper to transport to India from China.
Onkyo 3400 is being quoted 28000 which is again 30% more than the price you calculated after adding 40% tax and 50$ transportation.

Even considering the greediness of the government while looping public it should not be more that 20000 in India.

Yup, whatever is sold in the bulk is cheaper or at the same rate. And whatever is less quantity the sky is the limit. take the example of hard disk, CPU, RAM not much difference in the rates. And look at the graphics card.. huge diff.

Earlier when I had to get my first portable disk from US - we never then even used to get these in India.. so no comparison.. and currently its very popular in india and so now hardly any difference in the price...

So hope one day.. AVR and speakers does not remain some niche products and then as the volume goes up the prices will be fine, the problem is the volume and profit margins more than the duties.

Hi,

I am from ahmedabad. I called up onkyo dealer in Mumbai yesterday. I was in search from HT-S3400 for the best price. He informed that 3300 and 3400 are not in stock and are outdated. The new one is HT-S3500 and is available for Rs. 27900.
In Ahmedabad (reliance digital), I checked the price of 3400 and is available for 28,000. 3500 is not available anywhere in ahmedabad.

Confused!!. Should I go to mumbai and get 3500 or pick 3400 from ahmedabad. or should I wait for few more months expecting 3400 cost will come down.

Your suggestions pls..

All, I am seriously considering buying this for my LG Cinema 3D Smart TV, any inputs from someone already has been using this HTS (Onkyo HTS 3500), But yesterday, one of my friend has bought HTS 3400 in Reliance Digital for 28k and with Philips BDP5200 3D Blu-Ray Player for just 2k as an offer... The diffference is pretty much the USB connectivity and it offers playing mp3 files without switching on anything, say a Bluray with USB.
