A feeling of deja vu.. again :-)) ( it that means anything at all ).

I let go my beloved NAD C356BEE a couple of days ago and am on the lookout for an amplifier.

The reason was primarily that since i got the Promitheus pre and used the NADC356 as a power amp.. i tasted better sound..

Now the shelf looks barren without the NAD.. the Marantz asks me.. "am i next on the chopping block..you bum ?.. the Epos's have a sad look about them.. and looking inwards i ask myself .. where is all this going to end ??

My folks at home were very much surprised i let go the NAD. They were used to music wafting into their room late nights..they dont understand the sudden decision.. and frankly sometimes i dont too.

( I have borrowed a few lines from ajay124's thread.. cheers ajay124 ).

I am very much enjoying music on an ordinary Sansa Flac player coupled with an ipod headphone ( yes.. the headphone upgrade will happen shortly too ) and unkowingly enjoying the few extra rounds in the morning :-))

Have defined a few objectives needed to be met ( on a budget ) and have had various PM's with FM's querying them and driving them nuts with questions and they have been very kind to respond with their views.

I thought i could start this thread so i could keep you posted on what on my mind..

I want an amp that will pair well with the promitheus passive pre
I cannot afford a good pre upwards of Rs 100k
Alternately.. a good integrated.. which is a quantum leap ahead for me.
I have no criticsm for the NAD.. only praise and not because i sold it to a FM.. it is a very good amp for the money but i need to experiment more with a new sound.
Needed something that would lead me to a transition to new speakers ( if and when it would happen )
Am amp with loads of juice and quite musical with a wide soundstage and imaging ( yeh to sapne mein hota hai bhai !! )

Some contenders :- ( not in any particular order )

Naim Nait 5i - integrated
Naim Nait XS - integrated
Creek - 5350 and Destiny 2 are outta my budget - unless someone offers them to me
Odyssey Stratos
Odyssey Khartago
NAD C275 - here we go again ?? - i am getting a good deal but i dunno it will match with the TVC passive pre or will justify my aims.
Exposure 2010s

Thing is i dont have a place to audition these in Mumbai.

One FM mentioned to me to select the amp and the speaker together once again.. there is some sense in that..but i dont have the finances for that. There are more important expenditures coming up.

Over the last many days.. i have been drooling at the Focus 160/140, The ProAc Studio BS, mesmerised by the MA GX10 and excited at the prospect or re-discovering the Epos M12i which i know is a good speaker for music.

Many ends to meet and so little money..

odyessey khartago... better still Bryston 4BSST or BSST2.... trust me... i have heard them with the Prometheous pre! (with Bryston 4 BSST2)

i realize i need to keep my feet on the ground and not get carried away by brands but by the sound.

Hope i get to audition a few of these amps in a convenient manner without disturbing ( unduly ) the work - life balance at home.

I hope i take the right call and have the strength to pull the trigger at the right time. This is serious money territory.

Boss, first & foremost forget the names & their prices. Audition all choices available for demo with your electronics & then make a decision based on
1) Whether your pocket can afford it
2) If yes then, next is Synergy with your current set-up
3) If has synergy, then whether the price is justified as in whether it is a quantum jump over what you had earlier.

Remember, no pre conceived notions with any of the options you've laid out, go with open mind

Hi Mpw,
Initially, the most likely amplification component on my list for my 2nd setup was the Parasound A23, because I have the highly regarded and excellent sounding Parasound JC2 pre amp(Stereophile Class A, Absolute sound recommended etc) and this was a no brainer choice for a great combo. Only when I found the pricing I was really astounded. Please see the link for the US price of this made in Taiwan component. So using a Rs 55fx rate to the dollar, the US retail is Rs 52,250, that too for an amp. that is shipped from taiwan to US. Yet MRP in India is 50% more:mad:. IMO this insane pricing practice in India is what is keeping the audio market artificially supressed. There are great many audio enthusiasts in our country who are unfortunately being underserved. Anyways needless to say I have struck this off my list. I will pick up an unit on my next trip to US (it has a switch to convert from 110v to 220v so no issues there). I wish more manufacturers/dealers will follow the pricing strategy of Rega - which has the same (or less) international pricing in India.

One can also fly to singapore and pick up an unit from X-audio for the same US pricing, and in the bargain get a free trip, instead of buying for a higher price here.

the a23 mrp is 80k here and it retails for $900 in the USA.

Jai was mentioning a price for the same about the 60's.

will be auditioning this today with my promitheus

lets see where it goes..

Jaibir has good things to say about this amp and having met and interacted with Jai few times i am inclined to think it is a good option.. good specs too..

if the audition works ok.. i will take another opinion and another audition with my epos.

today my work place is close to the parasound dealer and i thought i could take a detour after work.

the jc2 ( $4500 ) and promotheus pre amps ( $550 ) are poles apart.. maybe you can comment more since u owned both..
