I procured a Jamo C405 (6 Ohm/140w continuous/200w max) speaker set recently after auditioning it with,

Marantz 90w/ch @8 Ohms (140w @ 4 Ohm) PM15S2 (~70k) - Exceedingly good dynamics, perfect -soundstage, pin-point seperation, awesome mid-range clarity. Wholesome 3D experience. Sound to die for.

Sherwood 100w/ch @8 Ohms Ax5505 (just 14k) - Good dynamics, great soundstage, great seperation, awesome mid-range clarity. Sound you can easily live with given the price. Not bad at all.

NAD 40w/ch @8 Ohms C320 (mine) - No dynamics, muddled sound, (still manages to go to a very high volume), NO soundstage. In short - passable sound. Cant listen for a day.

Marantz 35w/ch @8 Ohms PM5004 (~20k) - same as C320 or worse.

Yamaha 85w/ch RX497 - BAD (period). (This isn't an amp but a 2 ch receiver (!!))

Given the above, It is evident that the speakers need good muscle power to drive. High current amplifiers are what they need to shine.

I also refered to the thread -> http://www.hifivision.com/speakers/1136-jamo-c605-c607.html which kinda proves my observation from direct owner observations.

Now, what are my options?

I have looked at audiophile stereo integrated amp specifications which have like >=100w/ch @8Ohms specification but am yet to find one.
The higher the price, the refinement seem to go up but the amps still have a 50w/ch wattage. (For instance, there is no 100w/ch amp in marantz or NAD or Arcam etc)

Which are the brands I should be looking at for a 100w/ch amp in the price range of the speakers? I see 'some' yamahas but I hate yamaha sound as mentioned above.

At the 70k mark, there is the PM15S2 which I admire and will be a 'no second thought' purchase. The 14k sherwood is a product I can use and throw away in 2 years without missing anything. They are that cheap.

Is there any audiophile brands specialising in high wattage integrated amps in the 30-50k range which I should consider? Is yes, which are they? If no, why? why? why? :(

Arcam FMJ A38 is 105WPC at 8 ohms/140WPC at 4 ohms (both channels driven).

Primare I32 is 120WPC at 8 ohms/230WPC at 4 ohms.

Creek Evolution 5350 is 120WPC at 8 ohms/200WPC at 4 ohms.

New prices would be in the 80K-100K range.

At the 70K-80K mark you could also look for a lightly used :

Bryston B-100 SST
Krell S-300i
Krell KAV 400xi
Musical Fidelity A5

If speaker upgrades in the future are a possibility then Bryston/Krell/MF are the best option.

At the 50K mark you can check out the Creek Evo 2 from Reference Point, Bangalore. Price would probably be 45-50K.

in addition, how would the emotiva UPA2 + UMC1 sound ? should be cheaper too ? plus the positives of a pre + power combo

With Jamo,Yamaha,Denon amps matches well.Rotels are high current, but not sure how will they sound with Jamo.

Try the Cyrus, Musical Fidelity and the Naim. They match very well with the Jamo's and Dont get fooled by the watts. Yamaha's 150 watts is nothing in front of Naim's 50watts. If you are looking for a long term setup, then buy any of these amplifiers.

I'd looked at a lot of amps in the sub 1l range for my current hungry Dynaudio Audience 52 bookshelves. The one I settled on was the Yamaha A-S2000 with the Parasound Halo A23 power amp being a close second. The A-S2000 is in a completely different league than the AX/RX amps or even the A-S700/500 for that matter.

The Naim and Rotel amps are also high current. I personally find Rotels too bright though. Plus the India price on both is a bit too much to digest.

If you have plans to upgrade your speakers in future , go for an amp which will serve you for long time. Otherwise try to match up the budget you invested on speakers. Jamo concert series do not need high power amps, but need good amps which can bring out details, otherwise they will sound like BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR:D or completely flat . Keep away from yamaha ,specially the low end series.

What about cambridge audio 6XX series?

I suppose the right combo will be the USP1 plus UPA2 for a stereo setup. Comes to 760 USD; so probably around 50-60k Rs. with shipping, duties etc.

i use Yamaha AX 397 integrated stereo amplifier it sounds great and i think it will be a great combination for your jamo speakers.

Apart from the usp-1 being good on sound quality, one really cool feature on it is the individual cross overs it allows to be setup differently on the subwoofer and speakers.

If you are looking for high current amplifiers then musical fidelity is the starting point.

I also agree with Jai regarding Yamaha AS-2000. You should atleast audition it once with your speakers
If i am not wrong AS2000 is a complete balance design. So if your source does not have balanced outs you can also opt for AS1000.

You may consider YBA design-201, its 100 watts and should fall in your budget. Bomerang Bombay has one demo piece which would cover warranty.
Ask them for demo with your speakers.
