Home Theater purchase in Kolkata

But shouldnt that be pointed out by the engineers themselves !

Well...I guess Audyssey is the best option :)!

Do post a detailed review of your system soon....will be waiting for it :licklips:

Not all from Profx or other places are audio engineers. Specially the people who come to install the setup . It would be better if you ask the so called expert from Profx or other store where you are buying from to visit your place before you make the final purchase and gives some advice on proper setup and placement..

Ohh...good advice :clapping:!! Thanks :)!

Hi Pranab....dont mind...but I always find that your posts just contains the words "You should go with Denon XXXX" etc., you never provide any explanation or information, with relevance to the question, as to why one should go with that product or combination :)! Dont mind sir, am not trying to say anything negative, but I just found it a little amusing. Since you are a dealer, I think you can provide a much better explanation from your experience which might help us all a bit more :)!

tirthankar: Friend....thanks a lot for your posts....the description you gave on the various combinations were really helpful :)...I think it makes my decision a lil more clearer now :)!

True..

@tirthankar.. congrats for your new hometheatre purchase. I shall also buy the same combination in 3-4 days. I have the exact condition as with you. I shall be installing the fronts & the surrounds which shall be on a height of 8-9 feets as i do not have appropriate walls & the space is blocked by furniture. I also cant go for the speaker stands & hence assume that i would also face the similar problem. Do post your rnd & how you would get the best of it..

Tirthankar,
The profx guys who comes to install Pinaki and Manoranjan both of them stay near airport and they hurry for installations during night. But if you give them a separate call personally they come and attend and you will need to pay them personally around 200 to 500 rupees (full reinstallation / calibration including wire cutting etc) per visit depending upon the effort involved.

For stands, I am getting them made from ply-wood, will post pics once done. Metals stands in kolkata is available the profx guys knows the location of the store but has no contact number.

^^ My front speakers are placed on top of a wardrobe at around 6 ft height, and I build a very basic base of plywood to angle them downwards while holding them by screws at the back :P.. will post a pic later.

I have built a pretty good rapport with Pinaki.. he seems like a good guy. Will call him up if anything comes up.

@angynagpal: I had also got the profx guys to come over to my place and they had said that the surround and back might interfere so I had been expecting that. Just how much that ruined the sound I found out only after installation :P

So its a good idea to do what Kittu suggested. Those people should be able to give you a first hand idea about the speaker placement for optimum performance. You can also post pics of your room in the forum and I am sure there will be lots of guys to help you.

@vprasad84: Thanks man. If you liked it during the audition, I am sure you will like it in home too... you just need to set it up properly and let it burn in to sound its best as in the listening room the set is usually pretty well calibrated and burnt in. You can get the people from whom you are purchasing to visit your place and give you an idea about placement.

Currently I am waiting to get the speakers and the sub burnt in.. I think the reason the woofer is lacking the punch I experienced in the listening room may be as the drivers are brand new and are not yet moving freely.. I certainly hope so :)

Well, got the delivery of Polk RM 6750 along with the Denon 1611 avr and the profx guys came and set it up. Total damages 46K(avr + speakers) and 4k for the cables.
Thanks a lot to all the people who have taken some time off to post in this thread and help me finalize.

The profx guys had done some setup themselves, but I was not happy with the results and ran Audyssey myself and then did some changes with the channel levels to bring the sound to my liking.
As my speakers are a bit high and the surround are behind me instead of beside me, initially there was a problem of the fronts and the surrounds interfering and the end result was not really there. I got some stands for the fronts to tilt and angle them towards the center of the room so that it passes below the surrounds and the surrounds are angled down but less than the fronts. Now the sounds are much better. Surround is working great and the dialogues are coming through crisp and clean.

The sub still seems a little bit subdued. Seems like I will need to work a little more on the sub.

I have set the satellites to small, crossover for the front and back at 120 Hz and center at 110 Hz. The LPF for LFE I have set at 120 Hz and the Crossover knob at the back of the woofer is turned all the way up to 180 Hz to prevent double filtering. Anything else I should be doing?

just a query....you paid4k for the cables. were the cables not included in the package.. .or you got extra or different cables than the regular one?

As far as I know, speakers dont include cables, you have to get them separately. From some posts here in HFV it has appeared to me that some times if you can bargain enough you can get the seller to throw in the cable for a little extra if the price of just the av components are not to your liking. But cables always need to be purchased extra.

For me in addition to the speaker cables I also got a pair of 1.5m hdmi cables at 750 each. Just the copper speaker cables and LFE cable for the sub woofer cost me 2500.
