Home Theatre for 4L? Help!

Guys, another question, I play my movies mostly from my Mac mini, all high resolution 7.1 downloads. What I wanted to know is wether I would require a DAC?
Been reading about it, can't get a good answer.

In my opinion you don't need one, if you have all high-re stuff just bitstream it via hdmi tp AVR and you'll get lossless audio/video output. In your situation you are ok without it, save the bucks and buy some DEMO blurays and enjoy :p

Hey,

So i need help in this area. My four short listed projectors are, BenQ W1070, Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 2030, Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 5030UB and the Sony VPL-HW40ES. Prices Approx are $860, $899, $2,599 and $1,999 respectively. Now i would like to go for the Benq1070, good reviews and the cheapest of the four, but the Sony is in a different league, so maybe i can save up and buy that a little later. What is your opinion?

Also, for the screen, i plan to do it my self, can you tell me where i can get the screen material, how much i would need, and what the material is called ?

Thanks for you help :)

Varun

Varun, first apologies for a late response,......... your choices of projectors vary a lot, you cannot keep a 860 USD projector in the same league as say 5030 for 2600 USD......if you going to spend 2600 USD I would strongly suggest for Panasonic AE8000 for 2000 USD.

For a sub 1000 USD, my options were BenqW1070, Optoma HD25E and Epson 2030. I was very close to finilize Benq when the rainbow effect clause stoped me since its a DLP projector. Even thought there is no gurantee that you would see rainbow effect, I literally did not want to take any risk. I finaly went for 2030 and I am so very glad I did. My post in the below thread provides reason why I opted for what I did.

I got the screen from a local vendor, Uttam Nagar New Delhi.

Thanks for your help, a noob question, bitstreaming would mean getting the audio out via HDMI right, not optional or anything, also, would a Mac mini be enough for this job?

Hey Sam,

So finally ended up purchasing the Sony VPL 40ES, read and researched a lot, and this always came up on top.

Thanks for your help though.

You are most welcome!
Yep, you can bitstream the audio over HDMI, but you'll have to check if mac-mini streams both audio and video through that one port.
If you are getting a new AVR, most probably it will be DLNA enabled, why dont you setup a media server on your mac-mini and ditch the cables totally? Your AVR will read all the shared media files from the media server. Google about media servers like PLEX, XBMC....etc and you will know what i mean.

Hey Guys, just a long over due update.

So I have purchased a Marantz 7008 AVR for a lac
Sony VPL 40ES for 1.3L
CNCT Projector mount from Amazon.in for approx 3k
250ft of 12awg cable from mono price
Drobo network storage
Mac mini to play the movies
iPad to control the room lights, the AVR, Mac mini, etc
Logitech Harmony one Universal Remote 11k

The room is still under construction going slow, need a lot of money, so prob will take a month.

The only thing left to purchase are the speakers, still think of Dali Ikons for a 7.2 system.
Not decided on the subwoofers yet.

Just thought I'd update you guys, comments, questions, suggestions welcome.
