Hi,

Please advice how do i clean my Vinyls?

Was reading in the other thread about some Magic Eraser or Soft Brush. Its not always we play Mint or near mint vinyls depending upon the quality we get.

Whats the best way to keep it clean?

My 1st post in this forum.

Whatever little knowledge I hv on this which I implement let me share my 2 cents on this topic...

1stly how u clean a record....the process differs from person 2 person.Some use soap,some detergent,some shampoo,some use spirit,some only plain water,some use distilled water,some use IPO etc etc.

Years back initially I was also very confused as what needs 2 b done.
After interacting with some experienced hands (as that time discussion forums were not available) I implemented the following while cleaning vinyls and I still continue doing this DESI process:

1)1st clean the vinyl with plain water and keep it wet.

2)Use a clean very soft sponge or soft cotton clean cloth...make it moist....&then use 1 particular shampoo so that it gives u enough of foam.I use couple of Clinic brands.

3)Then keep rubbing the sponge on the wet vinyl clockwise few times....the same way we clean utensils....but dn't put much pressure.Pressure shld b minimal...... tht much which helps the dirt come out of the groove.

4)then put the vinyls in a bucket full of plain water.

5)Pick each one of them up & put each of them under running tap water at a force so tht the dirt along with the foam goes off.Hold the vinyls at 45 degrees angle.

6)After the cleaning keep it standing ( in a slant position) under the fan in full speed for 15 mins.

7)There after slowly rub (clockwise) the surfaces with clean dry cotton cloth so tht there is no water left on the surface.

8)Use a carbon brush and then wipe off whtever static is left which u can do while the vinyl is on the platter even.

9)Put it in the plastic sleeve and pack it.

The key is static free plastic sleeve. This is one area where I invested by buying lots from abroad through ebat.It really helps.

Hi jayants,

Very good "DESI" method :clapping:which you are using to clean your LPs. I am also using the exact method to clean my records but i add a small quantity of isopropyl alcohol with the cleaning agent.

Can you explain the importance of the " static free plastic sleeves" to our FMs.

this subject has been discussed in detail in our forum. Infact just abt 3 months back i wanted to know the same thing and the seacrh function was so helpful. FMs have mentioned very clearly about cleaning the vinyls. There was no need to start a new thread for this.

OP - Please stop asking basic questions all over again by opening a new thread every time. This is against forum rules. Please use the search function or PM someone whom you think knows. The forum is free does not mean we have unlimited resources to keep hosting such repetitive posts. Already received numerous reports on your posts.

I dn't know what u mean by OP. But I can understand the post is marked to me.

Will appreciate Mr.Moderator to check my thread starting date before whipping your stick here. After your post in some other thread I have withdrawn myself completely because where there is no freedom of speech it's better not concentrate there.

Coming to reports will request you to please be gentle and polite in your approach rather frightening new members away. You also need some introspection I guess.

I am also using the same method. But before keep under fan just spray 30% Isopropyl alcohol 70% distilled water solution by a hand sprayer and cover the spray by a soft sponge over the surface of record and wipe off by microfibre cloth.

@Jay this is not to discourage you but members are expected to search the forum for answers. Many of the the topics have been discussed at length and multiple threads would not only add up to the clutter but also consume precious bandwidth. Most of the members are using the forum resources without any charges and moderators are doing their job without any remuneration but only for the passion. Kindly understand that they have nothing against you. There is no reason for you to take it personally.

+ 1 to Capt Sir's reply

@ your question : i followed Youtube videos too ... and learnt that ... it is equally important to store the vinyls in neat and clean selves too, after a clean

All the Best

@captrajesh - I have nothing against forum rules or anyone. What u r saying is absolutely correct. But that could have been communicated in a better way and not snubbing new comers in the open forum.I do understand what precious bandwith means and the mods could hv sent a gentle pm or be a little gentle in their approach BUT the way it was communicated openly I do not approve of as a new member.

@jay: you are arguing on semantics. The bottomline, as aready pointed out by many members, is that you ought to search the forums before starting topics that have been discussed threadbare. If after searching you don't find the answers you're looking for, please feel free to ask as many questions you like. A belligerent and unhelpful attitude from your end doesn't help your cause.

Its not the bottomline jls.Read other member's posts who do not approve of the way this issue is handled and blown out of proportion. I will and continue to argue if something which is labelled is not true.If u think my posts/threads are repetative then why did u respond to them in the respective threads?Asking basic questions here seems to be a crime as many here think they are GURU s and PANDIT s and look down to new comers. U guys should look into your attitudes as well and rather think how u shoudl be a helping hand for new comers rather baying for their blood.

+ 1 to jls's views.

To All..........

"You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink".....

IMHO this thing is going out of proportion now, hence, for the sake of sanity of this forum we all should stop.

My answer to your query on your other thread is because I do think there is not enough answer.

This thread is, however, redundant. Do a quick search on the forum. You will find your answers.
