HOW R PEOPLE BUYING SONY led/lcd?

In 2010 the following models used sharp panels EX700,NX700,NX800 and all 60" panels.
They then introduced thr EX710,NX710,NX810 in middle of 2010.Reason being according Sony press briefing there was a shortage of Sharp panels made in their joint 10g facility in osaka,Japan. Also the plant was not 100% efficient in 10g terms. So Sony was forced to lauch a new series with a SPVA tech from their joint S-lcd partnership with samsung in korea(they could have done a lottery like samsung, but they didn't).

Looks like the shortage will continue for sharp 'cause the recent disturbing events.

on to the main thread in question.
HOW R PEOPLE BUYING SONY led/lcd?
I was thinking the answer was very simple - "Money".:D
Every oher person have different degree of Passion/obsession(99.99999% of the time is news to Dedicate HT with all the acoustics in place) , compounded by their pocket size
- at times Money is all the deciding factor for many.
- few have absolute no tollerance to breakdown/bad support etc or Quality is imp. and they take a route where things are broken down to various components ( stages is what all call - i guess) and each stage does the specilization in what is supposed to be needed. - by doing these if any feature is lacking , can be built to it.
- few like simpilicity - ALL-IN-ONES ( tv with bd/dvd player) - no headaches,no wires clutters.
- Features maniac ,like me - eveything is on my PC with 24" simple monitor - as you see, I but cant make out the difference between 6 bit,8 bit or 10 bit color, so I'm ok as long as there are no ghosting, but I'm able to control what all can be played on the monitor or the projector.

...
...
the list can go on with different prespective. But in the end people still end up with "BEST" of their choices. I would better say "OPTIMUM" rather than saying BEST.
...and SONY still fares better than others for a lot many of the consumer base.

I had opportunity to view all 3 brands side by side with same inputs, both SD and HD. (models 5300 LG, C5000 samsung, EX600 Sony). And I approached the 3 brands without any bias.

Features wise, both LG & samsung are better, esp support for more formats via USB, dolby, DTS support is a big pratical Plus.
Panel wise, LG is superior compared to both Sony & Samsung. Esp, the viewing angles are far better on LG. Bigger screen is also a plus.
In case of entry level LEDs, for a similar price, LG could get 100Hz feature.
In general, HD viewing was better in Samsung and SD viewing is better in Sony.
HD viewing on LG did not give that content to me(only relatively), as compared to Sony & Samsung, also there was a bit of noise. But, SD viewing was pretty close to Sony.
Audio, I found the order LG(best), Samsung, Sony
Price, samsung(costliest), sony, LG
Looks: samsung(best), LG, sony

Conclusion:
More SD viewing: sony
More Hd viewing: samsung
More Features and bigger screen: LG

Final thought:
Usually won't go wrong with any of these brands as they generally deliver despite few imperfections. Better to approach without bias and choose whichever model appeals to one's eyes.

another reasons

Better Sevice
Very good ,aggressive pricing
10% More Screen Real Estate ( LG's 42 Inch to Sony's 40 Inch)
MNC brand having it's own technology and developmental and manufacturing capacity ( still I think Sony is not making their panels)

Best of luck with your TDH, never knew you would be that kind who likes or thinks about TDH.

hi
for the last one week i have been doing thorough research on buying 40 inch lcd/led .....

i was biased towards sony ......but when i tried to play my external hard disk on all the sony led/lcd ..........none of them recognised my external hard disk

the only exception was 32 cx420 ..,, it was playing all formats of video

therfore i do ask why are people buying sony ........when u cant play any movie from ur usb or hard disk .....

pl advice what is the real scenario

Hey i am also planning to buy a 32inch lcd & researching on these models. I checked on Croma & Vijay sales, they are saying CX420 will support almost all video formats (.mp4, .avi, .divx etc). I also checked with the Sony customer care & they said the same thing. Just to confirm, since you have yourself checked, is it right, that none of the other Sony LCD's support more than (MPEG-1/2) but this model does... I am really interested in buying this model, but USB support is my top condition for selecting a model...

Hello Guys

I have noticed a picture quality issue with all sony models. When you are watching anything on it, the moving parts appear blurr and compared to this, the static or less moving parts are sharp. This is clearly seen while watching any news channels when the news reader reading out the news, most parts of the screens are near to static including newsreader's visible body area. The moving part is reader's head, face and mouth. Entire screen is sharp but the head constantly struggles to be sharp. Once some moving object comes to static, then slowly you can make out in a half a second it turns sharp.

To confirm this issue, i visited few dealers and purposely took demos of Sony LCDs. Yes if you have sensitive eyes, it is a visible problem. Other brand LCDs have fast reporduction compared to sony and the duration between blur to sharp picture is very less compared to sony.

Is there anybody who can put a light on this or share similar observations.

Best Regards
Rahul

I have cx520. Supports Max USB I have is a 8 GB drive . it suports it an plays divx, mp4 etc. But NO mkv[ which is the mainline HD movie format now. I do not think TV supports hard disks as i failed twice with 2 of them.

Hi,

Please provide me more details on MKV and Hard disk support. I have cx520. Which does not play mkv from USB drive. I tried to connect 40 GB HD and a 120 GB HD . But TV did not see them. HDs were 2.4. I PATA and 1 SATA. Formatted to fat 32. I converted an HD MKV to m2ts . That was played without audio coz of the default audio format was not supported with Sony[ do not remember the format now].

The CX520 and upward EX520/720,NX720 series and the flagship HX920 doesn't support MKV or NTFS partitioned HDD.

Only the low end Sony support mkv.
